Husband: “If anything happens to me, promise me you’ll never marry again.”
Wife: “Why would you say something like that?”
He smiled.
Husband: “Just promise me.”
She laughed.
Wife: “I promise.”
Three months later, he died unexpectedly.
At the funeral, his family barely spoke to her.
His mother even told her:
Mother: “You were only married to him for four years.”
Wife: “He was my husband.”
Mother: “He was my son first.”
She said nothing.
A week later, the family gathered at the lawyer’s office.
Lawyer: “I’m here to read the will.”
His mother sat proudly beside his younger brother.
Mother: “He always told us everything.”
The lawyer opened the document.
Lawyer: “To my wife, I leave $5 million.”
Everyone froze.
His mother stood up.
Mother: “What?”
Lawyer: “Five million dollars.”
Brother: “That has to be a mistake.”
The lawyer shook his head.
Lawyer: “It isn’t.”
His mother turned toward her.
Mother: “You manipulated him.”
Wife: “I never asked him for anything.”
Then the lawyer continued.
Lawyer: “There is one condition attached to the inheritance.”
She looked up.
Wife: “What condition?”
The lawyer looked directly at her.
Lawyer: “You must read the second letter.”
I’m turning into one of those women that call everybody a pet name. Sugar, honey, love, etc. idk it just naturally happened.
I do love a nickname/pet name though
