Cult or Kayfabe?
There's a notion on the left that Trump supporters are a cult, brainwashed into mindless obedience. I don't think that's the case. It's a lot worse than that, and I'll make my argument here. Grab some coffee, let's do a thread.
People can analyze, hypothesize, blame Dems till they are blue in the face. None of it matters.
This is the game right here.
Misinformation works. Those that believed misinformation voted Trump. Those that believed the truth voted Harris.
There is NO candidate that can change this.
Republicans have a well oiled propaganda machine that spans all media platforms and we do not.
Period.
🚨Reminder: He was tweeting about “voting machines switching” votes & telling the base “don’t let your vote be stolen” since 2012. A whole decade of sowing doubt & undermining elections. Nothing new
Your accusation against Josh Riley and Kathy Hochul of spreading hate is as realistic as O.J. Simpson saying that he would spend the rest of his life trying to find the real killer. All O.J. needed to find the real killer, and all YOU need to find the source of division, is a mirror.
I do not endorse anyone tearing down Marc Molinaro's signs. In fact I condemn this act. But it seems to me it is just as likely people are pissed at you for your blood libel against Haitians who are living in Springfield Ohio LEGALLY. You passed on the RACIST LIEEEE that they were eating cats and dogs in this tweet.
https://t.co/jK21AXdPaF
When Josh Riley demanded you apologize for your debunked racist lie, you did not. Instead, you doubled down on the lie.
https://t.co/ivak5mGse0
Dozens, if not hundreds of people demanded you retract your lie and apologize. You refused, even after the LIEEEE was thoroughly debunked. People posted links to an article announcing the Springfield police had received no reports of missing or eaten pets in response to the LIEEEE that you tweeted, and you refused to back off and apologize.
I call what you did a blood libel for a good reason, Congressman Molinaro. It is similar to the type of blood libel that the Nazis in Germany used against the Jews in the 1930s when they accused them of baking the blood of Christian children into their matzahs. I am providing a link for those with strong stomachs to a 1934 column in the violently antisemitic paper Der Sturmer that spread this blood libel so you can see the hatred the Nazis published that would fester and grow into the Holocaust years later.
https://t.co/J4oCfhilLp
Now, the filth that you spread, Congressman Molinaro is not quite as bad as the filth that the Nazis spread because you only accused the Haitians of eating pets, and obviously that is not as bad as accusing them of eating children. But it is pretty damn bad, and anyone with a brain would know that it was likely to result in death threats against the Haitians.
And indeed, Haitians did get death threats after the fascist you support, Donald Trump, told the same lie during his debate with Kamala Harris. Oh, and it is not me calling Trump a fascist. That’s what General Mark Milley, Trump’s hand-picked Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said about Trump. Here is exactly what Milley said.
https://t.co/6T9i7hN2zf
“He is the most dangerous person ever. I had suspicions when I talked to you about his mental decline and so forth, but now I realize he’s a total fascist. He is now the most dangerous person to this country. A fascist to the core.”
And Milley is not alone in calling Trump a fascist. General John Kelly was Trump’s longest-serving Chief of Staff. He said that Trump “falls into the general definition of fascist”
https://t.co/PhIz8sVauy
Sorry for going off on a tangent and mentioning that you support a fascist. However, Jason Stanley, a student of authoritarian regimes, posted a video about the 10 tactics of fascism, and Trump ticks off all the boxes.
https://t.co/gRNtnJFNQC
One of those tactics must be very familiar to you. It is the division of people between “us” and “them”, with “us” being the good guys, and “them” being demonized as evil and an existential threat to “us”. And your demonization of “them”—illegal immigrants—has morphed into demonization of even the Haitians who are here legally.
You are not a stupid man, Congressman Molinaro. You HAD to have known that it was highly likely that your libel would open the door towards threats directed at Springfield and the Haitian community. And indeed, Springfield has had to close its schools and government buildings when it received over 30 bomb threats. What you probably didn’t anticipate is that theLIIIIIE that you and Donald Trump told even affected a White factory owner in Springfield who was inundated with death threats after he stood up for his Haitian employees. After he said that his employees were hard working and did not cause any drama, he was flooded with so many death threats that FBI told him to take special precautions such as keeping his window shades down and alternating his driving route. You can read how the lie that you and Donald Trump incited neo-Nazis to terrorize Jamie McGreggor here.
https://t.co/thKSy6jtGQ
I am not calling you a Nazi, Congressman Molinaro. But I hope that you will reflect on how dehumanizing lies by Nazis in the 1930s against the Jews prepared the way for the German people to accept their massacre in the 1940s. And I hope the people of #Twithaca and the voters of #NY19 realize that your cynical lust for power has crowded out any sense of decency you may have once had.
Here are two articles for anyone interested in taking a closer look at Marc Molinaro’s blood libel.

Stopped by @CortlandDems Headquarters to thank our volunteers and to cheer on my fellow candidates. Cortland County is fired up and ready for Election Day!
@marcmolinaro@JoshRileyUE@KathyHochul Is this like that time you lied about Haitians?
Seems more likely that you knocked the sign down yourself, so that you would have something to whine about.
By the way, why have you not apologized for your racist smear? Why is the post still up?

@GOP Instead of trying to spread election fraud lies, why not just motivate your base to get to polls? A good old fashioned Trump Nazi Boat Rally should get everyone to the ballot box!
@MinakoMama5@BlueBlueBaby60@marcmolinaro Just mind boggling how so many in the GOP have let themselves be pulled into the gutter.
I think most folks thought the Access Hollywood tape would be the low point. Instead, they just keep going lower and lower, with Access Hollywood being the high point.
Harrison Ford: When dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding alarms saying ‘For God's sake, don't do this again,’ you have to pay attention. They're telling us something important. I've got one vote, same as anyone else, and I'm going to use it to move forward. I'm going to vote for Kamala Harris
@marcmolinaro Seems like a good time to ask the question I keep asking…
Who won the 2020 Presidential Election?
We both know that you know. And we both know why you lack the courage to say what is plainly a fact.
@JoshRileyUE I had to look twice; my first thought was that it was a parody account.
But no, it's for real. Marc doing an Oprah-Winfrey style give-away.
YOU GET A SQUIRREL!
AND YOU GET A SQUIRREL!
AND YOU TOO, LOOK UNDER YOUR SEAT!
ANOTHER SQUIRREL!
What a time to be alive.
@marcmolinaro Going after the squirrel-keeper vote? Boy, you've really got your finger on the pulse of the district.
Not reproductive rights. Not the CHIPS act. Not democracy.
It's squirrels. That's what Marc is focused on. He's going to let me keep a squirrel. Thanks, pal.
In August of 2022, @Brandon4ny22 criticized the CHIPS Act as “corporate welfare.” Two months later, the Micron project was announced. #NY22
