The grades get you through the door. The sport swings it wide open. You need both.
MLB owners want less risk to their investment. Go prove it in college. If you are a GUY..you will be after two years in college and can go to the draft.

HS athletes:
Summer workouts are less than 10% of your time. If you cannot carve out 4-7% of your week to train with your teammates & coaches then you are not a serious athlete. There is plenty of time left to work, swim, fish, sleep, etc. Get to workouts & get better!!
A Division III "commitment" is not a scholarship.
At the NESCAC schools , Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, Tufts , there are zero athletic scholarships. None. A coach can't promise your son a roster spot or a dollar of aid. That's why those posts read "committed to the admissions process."
The coach supports the application. Admissions makes the call.
The cascading impact of the transfer portal is now affecting D1 Power 4 freshman recruits in baseball.

The recruiting board changes at ANY time
One thing scouting reinforced for me: hitters get paid to hit.
Defense can separate you. Speed can help you. But if you can consistently do damage against good pitching, you’ll always give yourself a chance to climb the ladder.
After 12 players have entered the transfer portal, Abilene Christian head coach Jo Koons has resigned after two seasons to pursue other professional opportunities.
Koons is currently serving as the associate head coach of the AUSL's Utah Talons.
