@IanCarter67 @curlewcalls As I wrote this is not a simple process and complex (many factors interfere with a population), very expensive and long-term. This is the Marathon Ian :) We have a very small population (200 pairs). We can not afford to extinction the species before the target can be achieved.

[LIFEkulikPL @InfoPtop]

@IanCarter67 @curlewcalls Yes, that's true Ian, headstarting alone is not a solution to problems, but only one of the tools. Habitat actions are also needed, but it is a very expensive and long-term process. Headstarting gives us time to solve problems with improving habitats. We won't do that in 2-3years

Poland has beautiful meadows. There are 1week old curlew chicks in here-somewhere. At least I hope so. #curlew

[Mary Colwell @curlewcalls]

Precious headstarted curlews in Poland in whole country - only around 200 pairs left. Each one is a bundle of hope. 😍

Rarely on Twitter recently - it's peak season.

Now searching for rare Curlews at Wizna meadows🇵🇱 for @InfoPtop to protect nests: by fencing with electrical installation against mammals & corvids or by artifical incubation of broods.
Quite successful with 6 nests already found!

⚠️Osuszanie terenów podmokłych oraz regulacja rzek przyczyniły się do długotrwałej suszy hydrologicznej w Polsce. Ponowne nawadnianie mokradeł 🏞️ i przywracanie naturalnych siedlisk chroni ludzi przed suszami i powodziami. https://t.co/rzg4rVWIg5

Over the past four years, we’ve successfully released 107 curlew onto Dartmoor, and we have one more year to go in this five-year project. 🤎

In 2019, the Duchy of Cornwall approached us to look into headstarting curlew using eggs collected under license from RAF Airbases.

As Commissioner @CHansenEU prepares to present the Vision for Agriculture and Food on February 19th, we are at a pivotal moment. This vision will shape EU food and farming policy for the next decade.

This vision must be based on the historic agreement reached in the Strategic Dialogue earlier in 2024, bringing together diverse stakeholders - including farmers, food industry representatives, environmental NGOs, and civil society groups. The Strategic Dialogue provides a clear roadmap for addressing the social, environmental, and economic challenges that European agriculture is currently facing. And the outcome was clear: business-as-usual is not an option.

With climate change and biodiversity loss already having devastating impacts on farmers, we are committed to ensuring that the Vision for Agriculture and Food leads to real, lasting change.

How can we make this urgent transition towards sustainability without leaving any farmer behind?

🌾Repurposing CAP subsidies to deliver real socio-economic and environmental benefits
🌾Reducing agricultural emissions through effective policies
🌾Investing in nature restoration
🌾Supporting a just transition in the livestock sector
🌾Ensuring sustainable and healthy food is the easy choice for consumers
🌾Benchmarking farm-level sustainability to drive real progress
🌾Reducing bureaucracy and improving policy enforcement
