Israeli attacks on Lebanon have left more than a million people displaced and thousands injured. Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands reports on a hospital that is struggling to keep up with the casualties of Israel’s war.
According to Adalah and confirmed by the Embassy of Brazil in Israel, flotilla activists Thiago de Avila and Saif Abukeshek, kidnapped by Israeli occupation naval forces in international waters on April 30, have been beaten, blindfolded, held in stress positions, and interrogated by Shin Bet.
De Avila lost consciousness twice and faces possible Mossad interrogation on "terrorist" suspicion. Both are on hunger strike and are due in court on May 3.
This young man is Dham Al-Amoush. A Jordanian engineer who was arrested for online posts on Gaza.
After months, he decided to go on a hunger strike. He called his parents after one week to tell them he was not feeling well then disappeared.
Parents searched for him in all prisons and hospitals. They found him 2 days later being dropped off at a hospital in a coma.
His family alleged he was subjected to severe beatings and torture. The hospital refused to give the family any medical reports. The government refused to allow the family to treat him abroad.
A few days ago he was sentenced to 12 years in prison, reduced to 8—while he was on life support.
Today, he tragically passed away.
His daughter was born while he was in jail. He never got to see her.
Heartbreaking injustice.

NEW | Israeli Chemical Spraying Across Borders: A Growing Ecocide in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria
Israeli occupation forces have escalated their aerial chemical spraying campaigns, targeting farmland and grazing lands across Gaza, southern Lebanon, and southern Syria’s Quneitra region.
In Quneitra, over 65 kilometers of border farmland were hit in January 2026, destroying around 3,500 dunams of grazing land, hundreds of dunams of winter crops, and dozens of olive groves.
Similar spraying in southern Lebanon used glyphosate at dangerous levels, causing soil infertility and threatening food security. Gaza farmers have faced recurring herbicide attacks since 2014, leaving thousands of dunams ruined.
Visible damage to crops, livestock, and grazing areas is clear, and the chemical composition remains largely unknown. Families relying on agriculture for survival have suffered severe economic and food losses, with reports of illness among humans and animals exposed.
Human rights groups warn that these systematic attacks on essential civilian resources may amount to ecocide and serious violations of international law.
