The loss of 8th Assembly leadership pained Tinubu terribly. It was one thing that pained the Jagaban the most in his political career. He was afraid that Buhari’s government will be stampeded by those who grabbed it due to APC and Buhari’s lackadaisical approach. Today at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., received a delegation from UTM FLNG Ltd., led by Julius Rone, OFR, Group Managing Director, for a strategic partnership visit.

The discussions focused on the 1.8 million tonnes per annum capacity Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project, with an emphasis on finalising agreements and accelerating project execution. The GCEO highlighted the need to speed up the Final Investment Decision (FID), noting the equity stakes among the three parties, NNPC Ltd. (with a 20% stake), UTM Offshore Limited, and the Delta State Investment Development Agency (with an 8% stake), to ensure proportionate offtake aligned with investments.

Court Jails 15 Chinese, 2 Filipinos, 1 Pakistani for Cyberterrorism, Internet Fraud in Lagos

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday June 19 and Friday, June 20, 2025, secured the conviction and sentence of 15 Chinese, two Filipinos and one Pakistani for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud before  Justices Chukwujekwu Aneke, Ayokunle Faji and Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos

The suspects are: Peng Li Huan, Zhang Jin Rong, He Kun, Rachelle Cabalona, Caselyn Pionela, Guo Long Long, Zhang Hua Zhai, Lin Hao Bo, Chen Fusheng, Chen Dong Dong, Wang Gong Lin, Pan Cai Yu, Huang Ren Jian, Zhang Xiao Lei, Khurram Shahzad, Chen Yuan, Wu Yong An and Chen Xin.

The suspects were arraigned on separate charges bordering on cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Caselyn  Pionela, sometime in December 2024, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, willfully caused to be accessed, computer systems organized to seriously destabilize and destroy the fundamental economic and social structure of Nigeria when you procured/employed Nigerian youths for identity theft and to hold themselves out as persons of foreign nationality, with the intent to gain financial advantage for yourselves and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015 (As amended 2024) and Section 2(3)(d) of the Terrorism (Prevention, Prohibition) Act, 2022.”

They all pleaded “guilty” to the charges when they were read to them.

In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Spiff Owede, Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, Chinenye Okezie, Ebuka Okongwu, B.M Isah and Nambam Mutfwang respectively prayed the court to convict the defendants and also order the forfeiture all the exhibits recovered from them. 

The judges found them guilty of the charges and convicted them accordingly. 

All the convicts were sentenced to one year imprisonment, with a fine of N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira).

The judge also ordered that upon completion of their sentences, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, should ensure that they are repatriated to their country of origin within seven days. 

The judge also ordered that the items recovered from them be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The convicts are among the 792 suspects arrested by operatives of the EFCC for alleged cyber-terrorism.  They were charged to court and jailed.

Court Jails Five for Illegal Miningin Niger

Justice Abdullahi M. Dan-Ige of the Federal High Court, sitting in Minna, Niger State has convicted and sentenced the quintet of Yusuf Amadu, Babila Sani, Ibrahim Umar, Ephraim Jonas Okoro and Saidu Mohammed to jail for illegal mining.

They were prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on seperate one-count charge that bordered on illegal mining.

Amadu’s charge reads: "That you, Yusuf Amadu on or about 14th November, 2024 in Kacha, Minna, Niger State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court had in your possession, precious stones without licence and you there by committed an offence contrary to Section 131(d) of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 and punishable under Section 134(b) of the same Act.”

That of Umar reads: "That you, of Ibrahim Umar, male, sometime in November, 2024 in Minna, Niger State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court had in your possession, precious stones without licence and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 131(d) of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 and punishable under Section 134(b) of the same Act.”

They all pleaded "guilty" to their charge, following which the prosecution counsel K.S Ogunlade asked the court to convict and sentence them accordingly, while the defence counsel pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, stating that the offenders have remorseful of their actions. 

Justice Dan-Ige sentenced and convicted all the defendants to one year imprisonment or to pay N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) fine, each.

The convicts were arrested following credible intelligence that exposed their illegal mining activities in Minna Local Government Area and Kateregi Community in Kacha Local Government of Niger state.

The EFCC recovered funds that were rightfully due to the NDDC. In partnership, those funds have now been transformed into the Renewed Hope Multipurpose Training Centre in Otuokpoti, Bayelsa State — a project that empowers the people, especially the youth.
