This morning, the lawyers for the 1st Accused Person moved a motion where they asked the Court to strike out the entire charge sheet.

REASON: They do not understand the crimes the 1st Accused Person is accused of committing and, as a result, are unable to defend him.

This motion prevented the trial from starting last week.

The Accused Persons have failed to open their respective defences. The deadline for filing their respective witness statements was yesterday.

This morning, they informed the Court that they have filed an application for stay of proceedings.

🔺THE REPUBLIC AKONTA MINING & OTHERS (Nimire Forest Galamsey case)

The lawyer for the 1st & 2nd Accused Persons has absented himself from Court. The Court granted his request to have case adjourned. Case is adjourned to July 31, 2026, for the continuation of cross-examination of the last Prosecution Witness.
