Types of People to Stay Away From in Medical School
1. Over-religious folks
Now, there's something called fanaticism in philosophy.
When somebody becomes over-religious, what they often become is a fanatic.
A lot of people don't understand that fanaticism is sometimes regarded as a psychological problem. It affects the way a person thinks, reasons, and relates with other people.
I've actually had an encounter with someone like this in medical school.
There was this guy who wanted me to come to his church. One day, they were having a night vigil, and I told him I wasn't going because I had a embryology test the next day.
He wasn't my roommate, but he had free access to my room.
I told him, "Bro, I can't come. I have to finish reading."
He kept insisting.
"Come now."
"Does God matter less than your books?"
"Do books matter more than God?"
I still refused.
I told him I really couldn't have this conversation because I needed to study.
So I left the room for a while.
When I came back, he had already gone.
Later that night, I went back to my table to continue reading, and I couldn't find my Biology notes.
I knew I wasn't the type to misplace my things.
So I went to his room.
I asked his roommate where he was, and his roommate told me he had gone out.
I looked into his locker.
There, at the bottom, was my embryology notebook.
He had taken it because he was annoyed that I refused to attend the night vigil.
I collected my notebook and went back to my room.
The next morning, when he came back, I told him one thing.
"Never come into my room again."
"If I ever see you inside my room again, I'm going to become violent."
He kept quiet.
That was the end of it.
People who think every single thing must be sacrificed for religion should probably find themselves in a seminary, not in a professional school where people are actually trying to learn.
Many of them forget that they came here to study, not to convert everybody around them.
2. Over-ambitious people
I mean academically over-ambitious people.
The ones who are not simply interested in passing and moving on.
The ones who still think they're in secondary school and need to come first in everything.
They want to become the valedictorian right from pre-clinicals.
They hide materials.
They're annoyed whenever an exam isn't difficult enough.
They want everybody to struggle because they struggled.
When you become friends with someone like that, the friendship rarely helps you.
These are the people who are reading with you but secretly don't want you to improve.
If you're reading more than them, they feel challenged.
If you score higher than them, they aren't happy for you.
Even when they pass, if you pass them by one grade, they become bitter.
A lot of it is simply childishness.
It can get very toxic.
Whenever you notice those traits, just leave them alone.
3. Broke students
This one might sound harsh.
But hear me out.
When somebody never has money, and you're their friend, what do you honestly think is going to happen?
They're going to ask you for money.
Repeatedly.
You're not rich.
They're not rich either.
But somehow, you're expected to become their financial support system.
And most of the time, they never pay you back.
One thing I've learned is that gratitude is rare.
Don't build your life expecting people to be grateful.
Because of that, don't put yourself in a position where you're constantly forced to become someone's benefactor.
When you meet someone who's always broke, smile, be respectful, but protect yourself.
You also have limited resources.
Focus on yourself.
4. Political people
There are actually two types.
The first are those obsessed with student politics.
They always want to become class representative.
President of the Medical Students' Association.
Faculty executive.
Departmental executive
Anything political
When you become friends with them, they begin dragging you into things you naturally wouldn't do

Prof. Ekpe is a Cardiothoracic surgeon. If you passed through UUTH, you'll know how gentle this man is. He barely raises his voice.
What manner of disrespect to the only Cardiothoracic surgeon in Akwa Ibom.
Disgraceful!
Police entered the theatre dragged out a consultant and professor of cardio Thoracic surgery. Brutalized him and threatened to shoot anyone that interfered.
NMA needs to shut down the medical sector in Nigeria. And issue a 1 month ban on treating any law enforcement officer.
🚨 BREAKING NEWS: THE U.S. MAKES A STUNNING U-TURN ON FOREIGN DOCTORS 🇺🇸🩺
The Trump administration has officially lifted the visa processing ban for Nigerian and other foreign doctors. In a quiet but massive policy reversal, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that physicians are now EXEMPT from the travel-ban related freeze that had left thousands of medical careers in limbo.
For the past few months, a "silent" processing pause for 39 countries - including Nigeria - had paralyzed the American healthcare system. Doctors were being put on administrative leave and surgeries were being canceled because the administration had stopped renewing work permits and green cards for globally trained medics.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has now updated its official guidance to show that physicians are formally exempt from the processing suspension. This means Nigerian doctors can now finally obtain and renew their visas to practice in the U.S. without fear of deportation or job loss.
This is a massive development and a huge sigh of relief for the thousands of colleagues whose lives and careers were on hold. 🥂🇳🇬
Tag a colleague who needs to see this!
The path is open again. 🥂🙌
@BlessedGirl001 This would've been true with the Korra of Book 1. By the end of Book 4, Korra had become a much better, experienced, patient and wiser avatar. Anybody that has watched the series to the end would agree with this. She had so much character development. So yes, she would beat Ozai
This is my very first tweet, and I’m showing up as the OVERALL BEST GRADUATING DOCTOR in University of Uyo. I couldn’t be prouder.
