โFree enterprise, taken as a governing philosophy, is not conservatism. It is a preference for one economic arrangement got up in the costume of a first principle.โ
My latest, on how Canadian conservatism lost its footing โ and what it would take to get it back. #BCpoli https://t.co/7RZ1vq9wRW

Canadian conservatism didn't lose an election โ it got sick from the inside. It traded its philosophy for grievance and forgot what it was for. My attempt to diagnose how it happened, and to point at the way back. #BCpoli (link in comments)
BC Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay responds to NDP attacks in a CBC interview this morning.
"We are not the extremists. They are the extremists. They're ideological extremists and they have had very radical policies that have hurt British Columbians."
In this post-leadership election period let us all take a moment and acknowledge how lost we all would be with Anthony. Truly a hero for our time. #BCpoli
This is exactly why so many grassroots members walked away from Team Caroline. You call it a "dick move" to speak up when campaign leadership was making decisions that members overwhelmingly opposed. I call it accountability.
The difference between me and Denhoff is pretty simple: he left Kerry-Lynne because he thought she couldn't win. I left Caroline because I couldn't defend what I was watching happen.
One move was about opportunity. The other was about principle.
And now the members have spoken.
The candidate Denhoff abandoned won.โจThe campaign I left lost.
You can call me whatever you'd like, but history has a funny way of settling these arguments.
@naturally_zo I think that he is. Thereโs no such thing as Maple MAGA. Itโs cheap political shorthand deployed by ignorant people who cannot think for themselves.
Yes. I pay for Netflix premium and miss huge chunks of the fights for no reason. They just freeze and jump to a whole other thing happening. On Youtube you get the whole fight and pay nothing. It is so weird. #WWE needs to fix this.
If you need a shorthand for the Findlay-era BC Conservatives, they're what happens when SoCred voters are largely shut out of power for a few decades, and spend the intervening years watching a lot of Fox News.
The off-putting subculture didn't lose โ it won. KLF's most energized backers are the vaccine-mandate, gender-politics, anti-Indigenous-grievance crowd. The conservatives who lost are the ones wanting real, everyday issues to drive this party. It was nowhere to be found. #BCpoli
I donโt want to overstate thingsโit was closeโbut Caroline Elliottโs defeat in the BC Conservative race is a blow for a certain subculture of conservative consultants, staffers, and pundits who thought they had a dream vessel. They should now reflect on why they turn people off.
I am not a centerist. I am conservative. I have been my whole life. The fallacy in your argument here is that every strong position is worth defending. It is not. A strong argument can also be a bad one. I am sifting through the bad ones through a lens of classical conservative thinking.
Repealing DRIPA and doing nothing to fill the void is not going to save the province. It is going to throw us into even more chaos. We have to negotiate because these are real agreement and we inherited and have entrenched in our constitution. How can you be a conservative and not want to honour what has been inherited and do the right thing by agreements that have been made?
@IanSeanDesign I didn't have a candidate of choice in this race. And I do not know if I am voting for this conservative party. We shall see what is produced come election time.
I have written extensively about those things. I am well aware. What I am not willing to do is hold my nose to make it happen. It is possible to support something and also challenge it to do better. In fact, that is what any support should be doing always. Conservatism is about so much more than just defeating the NDP.
@subincherian1 You think I am a centrist? I read everyone's platform. You could actually just pretty much read one and you had them all. This post actually had very little to do with KLF herself and more the people who brought her to power who are two different beasts entirely.
