Accompanied by the gentle and haunting melodies of the ๐ผ๐๐๐๐๐ , masterfully played by Daniel Ngarukiye, Gaรซl Kamilindi brings Beata Umubyeyi Mairesseโs poem to life in a performance that intertwines poetry, memory, and music standing as a testament to the powerful harmony between artistic expression and written narratives, where words and melodies unite to carry the echoes of the past.

In this musical and poetic performance, brought to life by French and Rwandan children during yesterday's inauguration of ๐ฟ'๐ด๐๐โ๐๐ฃ๐, the memorial to the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda, newly unveiled in Paris, the children pay tribute to the victims while recounting the tragedy that unfolded across Rwanda's hills. Yet they also convey a message of hope, symbolically carried in traditional Rwandan baskets, as they give voice to and sing ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐๐๐๐ ("Never Again").

โMy family and others become refugees in a neighbouring country. I grew up in a refugee camp for over twenty years. So it happened in the 1960s, then it happened in 1994. Of course, what happened in 1994 has no comparison. I was talking about the story of the cycle that took place.
The events of the Genocide against the Tutsi are within living memory. And so the work of memory necessarily begins with the word of survivors. Survivors are living memorials, not only by virtue of the visible scars of the body, but also the indelible wounds of the spirit, which they transmit to us through their testimony.โ
