βFall seven times, stand up eight.β
We don't need children to avoid every fall.
We want them to discover what happens next.
The pause.
The breath.
The decision.
Learn from your mistakes.
That's resilience.

Tai Chi is movement. But it's also stillness.
In a culture that constantly tells us to move faster, stillness can feel surprisingly unfamiliar.
So this week, try one minute.
Stand still.
Breathe.
Notice.
That's enough.

AUTUMN IS A GOOD TIME TO SLOW DOWN. π
The leaves change. The days get shorter. The world gets a little quieter.
It's a reminder that growth doesn't always mean doing more.
Sometimes growth means:
Reflecting.
Letting go.
Making space.
Then beginning again.
#TaiChi#Totnes
We often focus on what's next.
The next grade / achievement / goal
But sometimes it's worth stopping and noticing: βI'm not the same person I was a few months ago.β
And: βI can do something I couldn't do before.β

A LITTLE REMINDER
Your child doesn't need to be exceptional at everything.
They need opportunities to discover:
Who am I?
What am I capable of?
How can I contribute?
And perhaps most importantly:
Where do I belong?
That's part of the journey.

THE INNER DEPTH WALL OF FAME...
Not famous for being the fastest.
Not famous for getting everything right.
Famous for:
π Trying something scary
πͺ Getting back up
β€οΈ Helping someone
π¨ Trying something new
Those are the moments worth celebrating.
#Kids#KungFu#Totnes
Creativity doesn't have to look like art...
It can be movement.
A story.
A knitted "kung fu girl".
A game.
A ridiculous Dragon noise.
A different answer.
A completely unexpected idea.
And sometimes that's where the really interesting stuff begins. π¨π
#Kids#KungFu#Totnes
In Tai Chi, we're constantly responding.
To our own balance.
To our breathing.
To the space around us.
To the movement of another person.
Movement doesn't have to be about force.
Sometimes it's about listening. Responding. Adapting. And staying connected.

Try this...
At dinner / bedtime / the car, ask:
βWhat's one thing someone else did today that you appreciated?β
βThey made me laugh.β
βThey helped me.β
βThey saved me the last biscuit.β π
It can help young people notice positives.
Adults can play too.
#Teens#Totnes
βI'M NOT DOING THAT.β
We've all heard it.
Then five minutes later...
They're doing it.
π
Children surprise themselves all the time.
Sometimes they just need the space, encouragement and freedom to discover what they're capable of. ππ
#Kids#KungFu#Totnes
π There's a certain kind of confidence that comes from knowing: βI've got people around me.β
Someone cheering you on. Someone showing you how. Someone helping you up, saying, βTry again. You've got this.β
That's something we want every student to experience.
#Totnes#KungFu
THIS IS WHAT WE WANT CHILDHOOD TO FEEL LIKE.
A place where it's okay to:
Try.
Fail.
Laugh.
Ask questions.
Try again.
Help someone else.
Celebrate a friend.
Discover what you're good at.
And discover what you're not good at...yet.
That's our Dragons.
ππ
#Totnes#Kids#KungFu
π Can you invent a movement for your own Dragon? Maybe it's:
π₯ The Fire Breath
πͺ½ The Flying Dragon
π² The Dragon Stomp
πͺοΈ The Tail Spin
β‘ The Lightning Strike
Give your movement a name. Then teach it to someone else. Bonus points for dramatic Dragon noises.
Obviously. ππ
WHY DO WE FOCUS ON MOVEMENT?
Because movement gives children another way to learn:
π§ Focus
πͺ Strength
βοΈ Balance
β€οΈ Emotional regulation
π€ Cooperation
We don't just want children to sit still and listen.
We want them to experience learning.
#Kids#KungFu#Totnes
πΏOne of the simplest things we can practise through Tai Chi is awareness of the breath.
Not forcing it.
Not trying to make it perfect.
Just noticing.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Move.
Pause.
Repeat.
Slow down enough to notice that you're here.
#TaiChi#Totnes
THE POWER OF βYETβ
Try changing:
β βI can't do it.β
to:
β βI can't do it yet.β
That one word changes the conversation.
It turns a dead end into a possibility.
Try it with yourself too.
βI can'tβ¦β
ββ¦yet.β

WHAT IF YOUR CHILD'S GREATEST SUPERPOWER ISN'T BEING THE BEST?
What if it's being brave enough to try?
In our Dragons classes, children aged 4+ get to explore movement and values in a supportive (and fun!) environment where it's okay to make mistakes.
First session is FREE.
π
π You don't have to know how to do it yet. You just have to be willing to try.
Every skill starts with being rubbish at it. Every black sash was once a beginner.
We help change : βI can't do it.β
to: βI can't do it... yet.β

It's about the little things.
A child trying something new.
A nervous child joining in.
A mistake followed by another attempt.
A quiet moment of concentration.
These moments matter.
And they're exactly why we love what we do. π

WHAT DOES YOUR DRAGON LOOK LIKE? π
If you could design your own Kung Fu Dragon...
Would it breathe fire? π₯
Fly? πͺ½
Turn invisible? π»
Have super strength? πͺ
Or perhaps its greatest power would be...
never giving up.
