You @nsitharaman could have made long term capital gains tax rate 20% with indexation for all asset classes. That is the real simplification and equal treatment. Inflation ravages the value of money. So, cost of any asset should be adjusted for the same. That's how it has always been till Arun Jaitley removed indexation for equities in 2018. You removed for debt funds last year.

Today you removed indexation benefit for all asset classes.

Let us say, an equity fund has delivered 12% annualised returns over 10 years. Assume the inflation is 6% for the same period. The real value of capital appreciation is only 6% (12%- 6%). By taxing the entire 12% gains at 12.5%, the actual tax paid on real gains (6%) is very much higher.

By not accounting for the perils of inflation while taxing long term capital gains, your @narendramodi government is penalising all long term investors.
