10 stories of insects, entomologists and the inspiration they provided
@RagsandRuby & I raided the @NHM_London collections as well exploring other collections & high tech labs (thanks @Entocycle)
Scientists of the world accessing data about millions of natural collection specimens at the click of a button. Not a dream anymore! @NHM_Digitise has secured £155 mill for digitisation across the UK! Big victory for @DiSSCoUK and the @DiSSCoEU community: https://t.co/HdKadcyWcX
The digitisation of butterflies and other historic specimens @NHM_London could help scientists prevent future pandemics and support biodiversity 🦋
Our £473 million investment into research will allow our brightest minds to thrive & build a more prosperous UK 🇬🇧
Great news! @NHM_Digitise to lead new national programme to digitise UK’s natural science collections. @Nat_SCA will collaborate with NHM & project partners to support organisations to engage with digitisation opportunities. https://t.co/IItzCSjNzR

The entomologist Richard Siddoway Bagnall was born #OnThisDay in 1884
Our digitiser, Louise became interested in Bagnall while taking pictures of his Thrips or Thysanoptera slides – he has very distinctive handwriting so his labels are easy to pick out.
Demonstrating the benefits of providing access to our #InsectCollections A returned loan from Acrididae expert Charles Rowell. Newly identified specimens and a bonus new species awaiting publication! #SmallOrders#taxonomy#MuseumCollections
