Saghar and her twin attended school only briefly in Afghanistan before their family fled. They stopped going after the Taliban poisoned the water at their all-girls school. Today, the family is living in Sweden, where education is a right for all.

More than 12,000 refugees/migrants – including Mohammed, featured in @InsideMyHeartdf – were stuck in Greece 3 years ago when the border with Macedonia closed. Today, 47 migrants rescued off the Libyan coast remain adrift after both Italy and the Netherlands refused them.

As we set our sights toward the promise of the new year, remember those who look across oceans for promise. In 2018, more than 112k refugees and migrants arrived in Europe by sea. The UNHCR estimates more than 2,200 people died or went missing while making the desperate journey.
