@Dean_Bertelsen It's true, and some magazines do their Best of differently, with some who only focus on staff picks for each category and a smaller listing of reader voted winners. We really want the list to be reflective of the community we serve ... (1/)

@Dean_Bertelsen ... and while we like to think we've got the expertise on all things #como, we need our readers to tell us about the things in our community we may be missing. So we're reluctant to get rid of or minimize the public voting aspect. But we definitely understand the concern.

@Dean_Bertelsen We ask them to help us keep the results quiet until the issue is launched at our Best of Columbia gold winners celebration, which was held June 28.

@Dean_Bertelsen The five with the most nominations in each category become the finalists for the voting period and the public then can vote once per day in each category during the voting process. At the end, we tally all the votes & start informing finalists of their placement. (4/)

@Dean_Bertelsen Because of misspellings and just mistakes that humans make, we take a few days internally to match up all the nominations and make sure nothing is being overlooked for a silly reason (like not the right business name & things like that) before opening the voting period. (3/)
