DID YOU KNOW: when the alarm goes off at a fire station, our firefighters have ONE MINUTE to dress into their turn out gear, get on the truck, and be out the door responding to the emergency 🚒🚨
Today, Academy 35 was practicing that vital skill.
How did they do?
With Early Voting in North Carolina just 4 days away, @ncsbe's site locator page has stumbled across @googlemaps new draconian limits on free map views. The text info is still worthwhile, but the maps are now pretty useless: https://t.co/1KmM1n2SiK

When you say "damaged voting sites" does that include the 30+% of early voting sites in Florence disaster counties that @NCGOP-driven legislation forced to close this year? Yeah...no.
Good review of how @NCGOP-driven @NCLeg's law requiring uniform Early Voting hrs across NC forced closure of EV sites in poorer counties this yr. Not mentioned: Hurricane Flo disaster counties are hardest hit, averaging 1 in 3 sites shuttered. https://t.co/3cM49Wl1KS

@EveryVoiceNC Recent history demonstrates that @NCGOP's super-majority in the @NCLeg can "do something horrible" any time they want. This initiative doesn't change that; it simply encourages them to do the right thing for a change. #ncpol
BREAKING: Word on the (Jones) street is that some North Carolina @NCLeg members are considering calling for an emergency session to mandate/fund mobile emergency Early Voting sites for Flo-impacted counties. RETWEET including your state rep/sen's handle to support this! #ncpol

TELL YOUR STATE REPS: LET NORTH CAROLINA'S HURRICANE SURVIVORS VOTE THIS FALL!
1.2 million voters in N. Carolina's 18 Hurricane Flo disaster counties will find it very difficult to vote this fall. Homes are destroyed. Roads are ruined. Postal service is disrupted... #ncpol
One thought: the @NCLeg helped get us into this mess, w/ its climate denial & especially its constant dirty tricks to suppress Early Voting. How about calling an emergency session to mandate AND FUND emergency mobile EV sites for Florence-affected counties? #ncpol

DISCUSS: given budgetary & statutory constraints, how can the state, counties, & @NCSBE best mitigate Florence's certain impact on 2018 turnout, to avoid a repeat of Matthew's voter suppression of 2016? #ncpol

As you would expect, NC county boards of elections serving the 227 out-of-service NC zip codes have all but stopped fulfilling absentee-by-mail ballot requests (red line), while ballot mailings are ramping back up across the rest of the state (green line). #ncpol

Florence continues to take a toll on postal service in SE NC, and thus on absentee-by-mail voting. As of 9/17 6 PM, one zip code re-opened (Chapel Hill main PO, 27514) but there were 2 new closures: 27530 & 27534 (both in Wayne Co.), for 227 zip codes w/ no service. #ncpol

Update to our tweet this A.M. New USPS data show recovery of postal service in NE NC counties (except Bertie); south still impacted. Zip codes w/ closed post offices are down from 320 Saturday to 226 today, but now include Chapel Hill's main PO. #ncpol

How might Florence impact NC's election? Here's one hint.
Absentee-by-mail voting is fairly popular in NC among stay-at-homes (75K in 2014). It requires post offices. Shown in red are the 320 NC zip codes whose post offices are 'closed until further notice' per USPS.

Coming just weeks before the Nov. election, the chilling effect these unprecedented US-DOJ subpoenas could have on turnout - especially in eastern NC's high-minority counties - amounts to flagrantly illegal #VoterSuppression.

RED ALERT: If you voted early or absentee during the past 8 years in any of these 44 NC counties, the Trump administration's DOJ has just demanded to know who you voted for. Call US Attorney Robert Higdon and tell him "hands off my ballot!" (919) 856-4530 https://t.co/rpXqY7ZQO2
