Some Miami Cubans get more upset about Democrats stopping at a Cuban bakery for cafecito than they do about a president cozying up to socialist dictators like Putin, Xi Jinping and Delcy Rodríguez.
What a place.

“It was like the door to my home was the blockade to two different realms.”
the bigots who spent years complaining that respecting pronouns and chosen names was “forcing them to accommodate delusions” now have to deal with a delusional megalomaniac demanding everyone recognize his new name for AI or be branded an enemy of the nation.

RIP Mighty Sparrow (9 Jul 1935 - 27 Sep 2026). Legendary #Trinbagonian#calypso and #soca vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist born Slinger Francisco, in Grand Roy, Grenada.
Widely regarded as the most influential figure in the history of calypso music. Though born in Grenada, he was raised from infancy in Port-of-Spain, #Trinidad, after his family relocated there in 1937, and it is with Trinidad and Tobago that he is most closely identified.
Sparrow's breakthrough came in 1956, when his composition "Jean and Dinah", a commentary on the withdrawal of American servicemen from Trinidad after World War II, won him the National Calypso King title and reshaped the art form's lyrical ambitions.
Over a career spanning more than seven decades, he has won Trinidad's Calypso Monarch title eight times and the Carnival Road March competition eight times, records that established him as, in his own popularized phrase, the "Calypso King of the World."
Beyond his competitive dominance, Sparrow's significance lies in his fusion of biting social and political satire with melodic accessibility, tackling colonialism, race, sexuality, and #Caribbean identity in songs such as "Slave," "Education," and "Congo Man."
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is deeply saddened at the passing of calypso icon Slinger Francisco, on Sunday 27 September.
The Mighty Sparrow, as he was popularly known, is one of the Region’s most acclaimed and accomplished calypsonians. Born in Grenada and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, his music tapped into the rhythms and sentiments of the Region, providing insightful and incisive social and political commentary in an artform unique to the Caribbean experience.
In a career spanning the Caribbean, Europe and the United States of America, for many decades the Mighty Sparrow entertained, educated and inspired audiences, promoting Caribbean culture in the global arena with lyrical brilliance. He penned over 500 calypsos, produced upwards of 70 albums, and secured numerous titles, including 10 Calypso Monarch crowns and eight Road March victories.
For these and other achievements he fittingly received high regional honours, including the Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC) in 2001, the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT) in 2014, and an Honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) from The University of the West Indies in 1987.
CARICOM extends deepest condolences to his family, the governments and people of Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago, and all in the Caribbean and global community who mourn his passing. May his rich legacy continue to inspire future generations to preserve and promote Caribbean culture to the highest standards.
