#Somaliland has demonstrated peace, stability, democratic governance, and resilience for decades. The UK should recognize Somaliland’s right to self-determination and support its place in the international community. #Somaliland#Recognition@UKinSomalia@FCDOGovUK
Prime Minister's Office Statement:
In the midst of Operation Roaring Lion, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secretly visited the United Arab Emirates, where he met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
I still believe in the values of peace and coexistence that Nelson Mandela stood for, and I hope love and understanding will always prevail across Africa. President @CyrilRamaphosa , this situation is heartbreaking and demands stronger action and leadership.
I’ve watched a number of videos about xenophobia in South Africa, and it’s truly heartbreaking. We all have a responsibility to stop bullying, discrimination, and social racism, and to promote respect, unity, and humanity for everyone regardless of nationality or background.
@nivcalderon I hopefully it’s a true prospective where #Somaliland is beacon of peace and democracy in the Horn of Africa… hope many countries will fallow soon.
Political processes frequently fall short of reflecting the will of the people. region remains deeply underdeveloped, the resources and economic opportunities disproportionately benefiting presidential families, a pattern that is particularly evident in countries like Djibouti.
The HoA increasingly become a graveyard of democracy across IGAD members, political power is often concentrated in authoritarian systems rather than rooted in genuine democratic governance. Even in countries such as Somalia, where president are formally elected by parliament,
Djibouti’s parliament has removed the constitutional age ceiling for presidential candidates, opening the door for Ismail Omar Guelleh to seek a sixth term despite being 77 years old. https://t.co/5Wg5znZdYw
#Egypt deploys military to #Somalia in strategic move amid Horn of #Africa
tensions
Egyptian military officers and equipment have arrived in #Mogadishu, initiating a deployment that could involve up to 10,000 Egyptian soldiers in Somalia, according to reports and local footage.
Two Egyptian military C-130 aircraft landed at Aden Adde International Airport, following a defense agreement recently signed between Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo.
The deployment occurs amid regional developments, including a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between #Ethiopia and #Somaliland. Egypt's military presence in Somalia is seen as a strategic move in the context of regional dynamics, including discussions over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and broader interests in the Horn of Africa.
This military cooperation is part of the upcoming African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (#AUSSOM), scheduled to replace the current ATMIS mission by January 2025.

@VancitySam According to the translation: already the union articles has amended as federal state, the law has already broken to that stage, my question is #Somaliland is part of federal or being rectified as a articles of union from 1960 to 1991 ?
#Somaliland Foreign Affairs Mins @DrEssaKayd expressed the participation and shoulder their responsibility in international maritime security initiatives. A worthy contribution in highly contested seawaters. And of course signalling sovereign capabilities. #Ethiopia
It's time that Somaliland is included in maritime security initiatives & programs in the HOA. Although we don't receive much support from international partners on maritime security we have been safeguarding this important trade route for decades on our own accord.
The UK is concerned by escalating tensions in the Horn of Africa.
We reaffirm our full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
We urge restraint and dialogue to peacefully resolve issues.
#US calls for dialogue to de-escalate tensions following #Ethiopia-#Somaliland MoU
https://t.co/5djkfnGV3M
The US State Department has called for diplomatic dialogue to de-escalate rising tensions in the Horn of Africa, following a "historic" memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ethiopia and Somaliland. The agreement, granting Ethiopia sea access in exchange for international recognition for Somaliland, has raised concerns.
During a press briefing, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed the US's concern about the recent developments and the spike in tensions in the Horn of Africa. While acknowledging Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity "within its 1960 borders", the spokesperson refrained from directly answering whether the US believes the deal should be rescinded. The spokesperson urged stakeholders to engage in dialogue instead.
The African Union (#AU), #IGAD, and the European Union (#EU) have all expressed concerns over the MoU between Ethiopia and Somaliland. The African Union Commission's Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, called for Ethiopia and Somalia to avoid actions that may harm their relations.
