@RedTory1@jernalistNB @optimistictory 100% agree. This age group views Carney as best protecting the status quo (they won him the last elxn) & best candidate to take on Trump even though he has failed miserably thus far. Unless we have a deep recession I don't see anything changing in their vote intention.
@Hershel_Lives@KeeganMatheson 1000%. Major unlucky break with that the double called. Still 0 out with RISP with chance to win WS? A dream scenario squandered.
@darrenblois1 Completely false. It's about sustainable immigration numbers that ensure we have the resources (healthcare, housing, social supports, employment) for newcomers (& existing Vto have the success. The vast majority of Cdns feel the number needs to be lowered, not eliminated.
@LPNewBrunswick@ElsiesWoke@darrenblois1 The PC party will move more Libertarian in the future so might be a better chance of you joining us than vice versa. ๐ The status quo in NB can't continue & eventually right leader will come along and tackle the structural problems in NB.
@ElsiesWoke@darrenblois1 Common sense Conservatism is making a strong comeback in Western democracies. The pendulum swung progressive for the last election but I don't expect that to last long especially with pending disaster of Carney in Ottawa & it's effects on NB.
@ElsiesWoke@darrenblois1 It will easily swing back PC next elxn. Voters were frustrated on many issues & the infighting took a major toll on mounting a competent re-election campaign. The key thing now is refocusing party on future vision & moving on from members who don't share common sense principles.
@darrenblois1@ElsiesWoke The alt-right narrative was an invention of the media because literally a few people out of thousands of supporters had a controversial history. NB voters have little patience when sitting gov'ts don't deliver I would not be overconfident yet about 2028.
@darrenblois1@ElsiesWoke Higgs has much more support in the party than Allain which is why the DA backed party candidate lost over the weekend @ AGM..The party will rebuild with a new working class focus for 2028 & now that the rebels have been mostly purged, a new vision for PCNB can begin.
@nohelmete@missmassform@premierbhiggs Got to say hi to him yesterday and he was in great spirits. He will be an asset to a future leadership candidate who wants to fix the travesty in our education system.
Walked through this house with a contractor friend at the original sale we thought $100k was too much at the time given the scope of work.
It is a great neighbourhood and nice renovation but overpaying for a massive reno project rarely works out in an unpredictable market.
This never sold and is back on the market for $699,000 โ a 7% reduction. And they added back that third second storey window. Without it the facade looked pretty bad. https://t.co/dQVtYjnM6N
@mdhiggs@jernalistNB Exactly, Trump has a history of saying outlandish things (Build the Wall?) that we shouldn't take seriously.
Elbows up is going to cost tens of thousands of CDN jobs & already driving us into more debt & higher unemployment with a trade war we can't win with our closest ally.
@mdhiggs@jernalistNB My wife just came back from a trip to Boston and no issues at all. We are on the outside looking in with US due to our arrogance & people pushing the narrative that US evil same ones that fell for the "Elbows up" scam which predictably was a useless slogan.
@paulontherun@jernalistNB@mdhiggs The Liberals took sides in the US election which massively backfired. We should have stayed neutral & worked with whoever was elected. US our key trading partner/ally & we are reaping results of Liberal fumbling relationship instead of staying pragmatic.
@SharonT20519250@mdhiggs We mainly don't travel to US as often now just due to the poor exchange rate. It was Canadian arrogance to think us staying home would hurt the US, they have 10x pop. & significantly more purchasing power per capita.
@WMGullison They want a system that guarantees in perpetuity move revenue for government to protect jobs and maintain the status quo. To date Holt has caved at every demand of labour & civil service until the tap is turned off by end of Year 2 our net debt will be back over $14 billion +.
I was on the provincial committee for property tax reform in 2021 and at that time the majority of government depts were against changes for a more fair + cost effective tax system for homeowners. Govt and politicians love the extra revenue for pet projects and vote buying.
Weโre overhauling New Brunswickโs property tax system. Have your say by completing a short public survey, open until August 10th. Help us create a system that is transparent, competitive, affordable, and fair.
@WMGullison 100% agree. The reality is we live far beyond our means in NB with a bloated civil service & an economy that is dependent on federal transfer payments with no government focused on bringing down costs. My argument was for property tax tied to CPI which civil servants opposed. 1)
