@HeCanPlayFor@johnlew13@13_A_Side_ @HoldTheBallYT Absolutely. Wasn't meant as a criticism of you and your work, rather a comment on how common it is for people to misinterpret or misremember information about their ancestry from older family members, including how many generations back their migrant ancestor/s might be
@HeCanPlayFor@johnlew13@13_A_Side_ @HoldTheBallYT (As an aside, I do speculate how inaccurate some of the information you've received from players might be. There's been a few that have made me raise an eyebrow when I've tried to research it - but privacy restrictions make it hard to know the full story most of the time)
@HeCanPlayFor@johnlew13@13_A_Side_ @HoldTheBallYT Coen might be a descendant of Heinrich Hess (1828-1904), who was from Leidhecken, near Frankfurt. I estimate that he would be like a 4x g-grandfather. But it's only speculation. Coen might be from another unrelated Hess family - perhaps also early settlers, or maybe more recent
@MikeB237@HeCanPlayFor Qualifying via birthplace or heritage (up to the grandparents) always makes a player eligible, regardless of what country they are living in.
@MikeB237@HeCanPlayFor You would think so, but there's no mention of passports or citizenship in the eligibility laws. After completing 5 years' residency, a player must live in that country for at least 210 days of the year preceding selection to remain eligible.
@Azkatro I think it was Alfred Bibby who died. From records on Ancestry, I'm guessing he was: Alfred Bibby, born 1857 in Poulton-with-Fearnhead, Lancashire, son of James and Mary Bibby (nee Andrews). Death was registered in Jan-Feb-Mar of 1880:
@HeCanPlayFor@vesh88@ITALIA_RLXIII From a browse of the England Birth and Marriage Index on Ancestry, I suspect that Oliver's grandfather was born in Ince to an English father and Italian mother who were married in Naples in 1946. So it would seem that it was Oliver's great-grandmother who was born in Italy.
