It was also great meeting more of the team in person in Pittsburgh (one person was much taller than expected!) and even getting to try the amazing Primanti Bros!
Thanks to everyone at NEP Group for the great visit!
I have always liked “behind the scenes” jobs and companies. NEP is no exception. They are the driving force behind some of the world’s biggest sporting events, award shows, and more.
I’ve had the opportunity to support the NEP team with their reporting and analytics, helping turn some of that behind-the-scenes data into insights for the business. It made it especially rewarding to visit in person and see more of the operation behind the numbers.
I don't understand our Costco. They always stock the carts as far away as possible from the customers coming into the store. Every customer needsa cart, yet they put them where it requires unnecessary time and energy to reach. #customerfocused and definitely not #leansixsigma
Earlier this week, I got out of my office and visit some folks in the great Columbus, Ohio area.
We had some great conversations about the challenges that come with building and growing a business, how we’ve worked through them, and what we’re learning along the way
For decades, I thought I wore a size 12 shoe. Then I took my son to buy new shoes. Turns out, I wasn't a size 12! I've been buying the wrong size for years because I never thought to recheck after age 18. From an embarrassed data guy: Always check your numbers. Don't assume!
Have you ever walked into a library and found an author's rough draft instead of the finished version? Probably not. Libraries are designed so you can:
📚 Find the information you're looking for.
📚 Trust that it's accurate.
The same principles apply to your company's data.
RSTLNE.
If you know, you know. After watching Wheel of Fortune the other night, I asked myself "why do I watch this?" and "why has this show been around for so long?" PREDICTABILITY. People come back because it's predictable. And there is a comfort in this.
🥁 Drums & Data is back with Part 2 of my Microsoft Fabric series!
If Microsoft Fabric—and especially Fabric Capacity—feels like a LAND OF CONFUSION, this episode is for you.
🥁 Drums and Data is back!
I'm excited to kick off a new series focused on one of the most talked-about (and often misunderstood) topics in analytics today: Microsoft Fabric. Many feel it is A LAND OF CONFUSION. I tackle what Fabric is and who is is for in this episode
I attended the Memorial Golf Tournament last week and was jealous that golfers each have a world ranking. I wondered what mine would say if my profession had this? What would yours be?
Is there an easier way to do this?”
My daughter asked while struggling with a complex audio setup.
Turns out… yes.
Same thing in business:
messy spreadsheets
manual reporting
hours checking numbers
We accept complexity as normal.
We shouldn’t.
Ever been to a #networking event where you talk too long to one person you just don’t click with? Today was different. I attended a speed networking event and spent 2 mins each person. Some I wish I had more time with and some… well, that chime wasn’t such a bad thing to hear.
"This work May Not Be Used To Train AI". Those were the last words displayed on the movie theatre screen when we saw the Mario Movie over the weekend. I guess AI truly is everywhere!

Email is down and the panic is up.
A flash drive is the MVP of the day. 🏆
If your reporting process depends on something similar, it’s only a matter of time before you’re in the same spot.

The #CFO scorekeeper press conference is here 😅
He lost it trying to keep up with the “score.”
Spreadsheets. Data chaos. Constant questions.
The problem isn’t the person — it’s the system.
Time to move beyond scorekeeping.
