I've been working on a really fun video that I shot with @DJSnM, @Integza__ and @JamesWhomsley when we were at Kennedy Space Center Visitors complex. It's over an hour of just 4 nerds nerding out about rockets in an incredible museum. I'll hopefully get it out tomorrow!
The difference between a bomb and a rocket is a well designed hole we call a nozzle. I'm really happy Grok doesn't censor every little thing that seems shady because every time I ask anything about rockets to ChatGPT it assumes l'm trying to make a bomb and tells me to go suck on a tomato. What's the point of having an artificial entity (you pay for!!!) to find and explain complex information if it only accepts "safe" questions???? Grok is great, it helps me find the right size hole without asking questions or judging me.
For a 2-stage spaceshot, high altitude ignition of the second stage is tricky to get right. My approach here is to dump a ton of heat into the prop as quickly as possible - this shot from Super 8 was 1000fps, played back at about 2.4% speed. The command-to-steady state time is about 0.25 sec
Open Sauce 2025! What a phenomenal event - I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s like an enormous adult science fair for nerds and then sometimes there are astronauts
As the best CAD modeller in the universe I have to agree. Extrude those profiles, Loft those sketches, Sweep through those paths, Revolve around those axis, Mirror when you can, Pattern when you should and most important of all, ALWAYS FILLET THE EDGES!
Tomatoes are disgusting!
