💸 if you work doing something you love, how do you handle the grief of charging for something you would do for free?
what about with friends or ppl in your community who wouldn’t buy it but would take the free stuff?
how do u maintain professional integrity? what policies?
"By the way, @IntendApp made me realize I should actively plan in terms of values + outcomes. Ended up implementing the goals, questions, values in my task system."
— a quote from yet another person who tried my app and came out better despite never subscribing
ok for now you can use https://t.co/7kWORNlh1p to access the intend app. main site should be up again by tomorrow
serves me for buying a dominican domain name 😬
i've never finished reading christopher alexander's timeless way of being, because every time i read it I end up being inspired to do something. i suppose this is maybe one of the highest compliments i can give a book
[want lists > to-do lists]
i never like calling it a "to-do" list, a "task" list
my life is not composed of tasks. it's composed of things i want
they're goals and wants list, with some specific ideas about how to get them done
one of the big useful shifts for me in last months has been: whenever there’s something i want to do but i’m not doing, i find myself automatically asking “how can i make it more fun?”
the shift itself is: my default assumption for why i’m not doing anything has become, “it must not be enjoyable enough”
this is a significantly more useful assumption and ime so far a more accurate explanation of what’s going on than the previous assumptions i had
through the years the baseline assumption for why i’m not doing something i want to do or know is good for me has changed in gradual, healthier steps:
0/ i’m fundamentally bad
↓
1/ i’m broken & need to fix myself
↓
2/ i’m lacking sufficient discipline/willpower
↓
3/ i just have a procrastination problem and need to solve it
↓
4/ there’s an emotional bottleneck and i need to do inner work. phew, nothing wrong with me
↓
4/ the task itself isn’t enjoyable enough*
*humans are intelligently designed for efficiency and enjoyment is what drives efficiency. if something isn’t easily happening, it’s my system rightfully and usefully resisting inefficiency. if i find a way to make it more enjoyable, 9/10 if it’s good for me to do the task/activity, i’ll end up doing it
in this way, anywhere there’s resistance there’re useful efficiency (enjoyment) gains to be made
luckily for me (i assume for most of us, this means that fun and enjoyment have been severely underrated and misunderstood in my life and i can probably spend multiple years finding ways to increase both before the benefits of this approach begins to slow down
do you routinely track, or at least, are aware of, the precise/exact moment that "I could do X" crosses the boundary from hypothetical over to "I will do X"?
@bschne me. you can't edit or delete the tasks you put in. they stay on today's list, then when the day changes, they're on yesterday's list, and you have a new list for the new today

@matthew_spear oh indeed. very similar vibe to https://t.co/ZhiMJ09cb7 actually, in terms of letting things fade away, rather than trying to keep them forever
barista: Classic blend or arabica?
60yo guy in line before me: When I'm flying in an airplane, the pilot does not ask me how or where he's supposed to fly next. Just take me wherever you think will be best.
(5 min later) barista: Do you have our loyalty card to collect points?
guy: Please, all I want to do now is pay without getting asked any more questions.
@julianweisser honestly part of the issue is that shipping apps to more than just yourself and your roommate/gf was always a whole pain beyond the building.
tons of new things being built, but most of them aren't even being made available, let alone being tried

why I find fascinating is the hook of “procrastinated so hard that I did X”, which I bet has a much higher watchtime than “watch me do X” or “here’s how I do X”. most people scrolling are procrastinating and so it frames the act as relatable, something you too might end up doing
I say this phrase to myself probably once or twice a month in my journalling. Today it occurred to me that it's very @tasshinfogleman-flavored.
