🧴 Personal Safety Precautions

Wear Mandatory PPE: Specialized pool paints—such as epoxy or chlorinated rubber—emit strong, toxic fumes. Always wear a fitted organic vapor respirator mask, chemical-resistant safety goggles, and heavy-duty gloves. [3, 6, 7]

Ensure Proper Ventilation: Air circulation is often poor inside a deep pool shell. Use large industrial fans to constantly push fresh air down into the pool while you work. [3]

Handle Chemicals with Care: If you are acid-washing the concrete before painting, always pour acid into water - never water into acid - to prevent explosive splashing. Keep baking soda nearby to neutralize accidental acid spills. [2, 8, 9, 10, 11]

Test Existing Paint: You cannot mix different types of pool paint. Epoxy will not stick to chlorinated rubber, and vice versa.

Target Ideal Windows: Paint in the mid-to-late morning after the morning dew has completely evaporated. Ensure temperatures are strictly between 10°C (50°F) and 24°C–32°C (75°F–90°F) depending on the specific manufacturer guidelines. High humidity will also ruin adhesion. [3, 16, 17]

🧽 Surface Preparation & Curing Precautions

Achieve Absolute Dryness: Moisture trapped beneath the new coat is the number one cause of paint failure. Once the pool is drained, washed, and prepped, let the bare shell dry completely for 3 to 5 days before opening a paint can.

Clean and Etch: Scrub the walls with Tri-Sodium Phosphate (TSP) to strip away body oils and sunscreens, then apply a diluted muriatic acid wash to create a rough, sandpaper-like texture that the paint can grab onto.

Do Not Rush the Final Refill: "Touch dry" does not mean cured. You must let the finished paint cure completely untouched before filling it with water. This typically takes 3 to 5 days for acrylic paints and a strict 7 days for epoxy or chlorinated rubber paints. If it rains during this window, immediately sponge or leaf-blow the water out and add an extra day to the cure time. [2, 3, 16, 18, 19]

Please read this statement from a CNN writer:
"It is raising doubts about whether democracy’s essential elements, like free, open expression; public speeches; and traditional campaigning can thrive under oppressive security..."
The writer was referring to the recent shooting incident.
I see fundamental errors committed by the writer.
1. The entire purpose of security, "oppressive" or otherwise, is to ensure that the president (or anyone, for that matter) can be secure in carrying out the duties of office, as well as the list of "essential elements" so mentioned. In this incident, security was the solution, not the problem.
2. Believing that security and democracy are inherently antagonistic to each other, as this writer infers, follows a long history of proponents who say that a safe and secure America means that we must give up some our freedoms in order to achieve such a thing. That proposal should be a non-starter. Where is the evidence to support this? In the mind of a sick, insane individual? Come on! We are much bigger than that!
