@DougDinsdale Crystal is probably one of my top games of all time. The unknowns were so cool to me as a kid it made me feel so smart to be able to translate the messages. What are the origins of names like Suicune or Mawile?
@DougDinsdale Its frustrating to see the creative industry slowly get eaten away by corporate overlords that just care about cash and a market that seems happy to buy a.i. generated bullshit. The following generations wont even realize what they have is pure shite cuz thats all theyll have.
This isn't me bitching about fellow localizers.
They're among the exploited for their passion.
I'm talking about the entire industry's rot, and it starts at the very top levels.
It really is sad how little the game/manga/anime industry cares about the creators in general (I don't mean just translators).
It's an industry that eats its young.
It also extends to the fans -- they are to be exploited with shoddy, cheap work.
The fans deserve so much better.
I'm not expecting steaks or blow jobs -- it's work.
But when even those very fans you write for vilify you for being woke or not literal or not keeping with AI or whatever reason born of ignorance, well fuckit, then.
Tonto, saddle up Silver, we're riding off into the sunset.
In an industry where the paymasters don't understand the work you do, constantly try to undermine you with cheaper rates, and don't respect your work since a machine can do a better job in their minds, only the most passionate will remain.
So, no, I don't do translations anymore.
Also, not implying unilinguals to be nitwits.
I mean nitwits who happen to be unilingual.
There is a distinction.
But if you can't make that distinction, well.
@clownhops Depends on the toys. I scan my amiibos and sleep on my plushes and race my hotwheels but figures like Pops or those blindbox figs are just decoartion.
