I didn't know how bad it was with them until I saw a special/documentary on what made Britain different from Germany. The Brits being interviewed viewed themselves as more civilized due to Roman Occupation. The guy specifically mentioned the Germanics stopping Rome at the Rhine thus separating each culture permanently into two distinct sociological philosophies & Cultures. Funny enough, both are genetically made up of Germanic Tribes. The Germans however stayed true to their nature. The Britains fell in love with their conquerors.
