In 1964, on a BBC broadcast, Arthur C. Clarke said something that most people probably couldn‘t comprehend at the time.

He talked about the end of biological evolution.
Not someday far off. He pointed to the beginning of the 21st century. Calmly. As if it were obvious.

He said machines would begin to think, learn, and improve themselves faster than we ever could. That intelligence would no longer be bound to the human body. That evolution would move on…without us at the center.

What strikes me is how human he sounded while saying something so inhuman.

No fear. No hesitation. Just quiet certainty.

And here we are.
Machine is taking over. Making decisions. Learning at speeds most humans can‘t comprehend. Serious conversations about merging with machines just to keep up.

This didn’t sneak up on us.
You don’t speak this clearly on television unless the path is already set.

Clarke was letting us know where things were headed.

And now, standing inside the future he described, we finally have to ask the question he never did:

Do we actually want this?
