The campaign to secure transport & infrastructure improvements (Road, Rail, Sea, Air, Education) for western half of N.Ireland (Tyrone, Derry/Lderry & Fermanagh
‘University must be number one issue for new MPs’, say university campaigners.
A 55-foot billboard spelling out the massive economic disparity between the North’s two biggest cities has been erected at the site of what was Derry’s biggest-ever shirt factory.
If we don't move more BBC NI jobs out of Belfast then BBC NI won't have different voices 🙂.
The BBC has about 600 jobs in Belfast and decided to cut the only other station in NI (Foyle) which has around 30 jobs. Sounds fair.
Let's talk about disparities within NI.
£141m to fund new hourly Belfast-Dublin rail service. Yet Derry/West hav been waiting 7yrs for an hourly service to Belfast on Sundays, & told the c£200,000 it would cost can't be found. The Derry-Belfast route carries x3 more passengrs thn Belfst-Dub #InstitutionalDiscrimination
Why Magee must be seceded from UU, part 101…
In the midst of this new row, we remember that UU has opened a new Psychology Department in Qatar…eight years after telling Magee that its 600-strong department would be better off in Coleraine - and moving it lock, stock and barrel.
INVEST NI VISITS BY AREA
For those interested in these things.
Out of 1,772 visits by Foreign Direct Investors hosted by Invest NI over the past decade, 1,455 (82%) were in Belfast.
Just 66 (3.7%) in Foyle and 7.9% of visits west of the Bann in total.
Incredible figures unearthed by @GAHargan.
Belfast is still hoovering up all NI's resources.
In the past 10 years, just under a billion pounds was spent on university buildings in NI.
*95%* of that money was spent in Belfast with the 5% residue halved between Coleraine and Magee.
@trishaw@deptinfra It's based on DFI's golden rule of 'East good, West bad'. Sure since when did they ever bother with doing right by the western half of this place?
Our petition to have #Fermanagh included in the All-Island Rail Strategy is just 400 names short of 5,000 - a number which will trigger a flurry of media coverage once we hit it 👍 Please sign & share to help us get to 5K signatures in the coming days 🙂

Derry's councillors need calendars frm Santa, as most seem to think it's 1970s 😳 Treating every single car space as if it's sacred & can never be used for anything else. Reducing our Walled City to a lifeless wasteland as a giant car park & roundabout. No vision.

Translink is delivering cleaner and greener zero emission buses to Derry~Londonderry. That means cleaner air and a healthier environment for everybody!
Get on board the Foyle Metro Road to Zero – it’s great for the city! #BetterConnected
Great to see that the new foot & cycle bridge over the Pennyburn is finally about to start in earnest. Another important link in the city's Greenway network 👍🚲🛴🛼🧑🦽🚶 @SustransNI
SAVE THE DATE : We're launching our campaign to see rail restored to #Limavady next month at @RoeValleyArts 👇🏻 Limavady has a population of 13K & sits tantalisingly close to main Derry-Belfast line, but has been disconnectd for 73yrs. Help us change that👍

So anyone interested in building good, segregated cycling and walking infrastructure in #Inishowen and #Derry needs to contribute to this: https://t.co/qvqUzuAwgi. We need to move away from our car-centric society, and that means cycling lanes and better public transport.

If @joekennedy thinks that a factory in Derry secured by John Hume years before the Good Friday Agreement is proof that Derry hasn't been left behind, then it's time that @POTUS found a new @USEnvoyNI😮 Preferably one who can actualy analyse & understand undeniable factual data😳
Cannot get this role filled at present...gonna try an alternative pitch...
- Next door to a bakery
- You can get up at 8.30am and still be in work on time
- Dohertys mince
- Can still swim on our beaches
- Micky Doherty playing 5 nights a week

And cringe.
Looks like the Belfast mandarins have walked the @USEnvoyNI right into it.
Seagate (and all due respect to it) was the last multinational investment of its kind in Derry - 30 years ago, pre-ceasefires and GFA.
Time to take the blinkers off, Joe.
