"The sunny South—a land of generous suns, of fragrant fields, and of a people whose devotion to freedom is as enduring as the hills that guard their homes."
— William Lowndes Yancey, Confederate diplomat and politician (1861)
Pictured here is J.E.B. Stuart II, son of Confederate cavalry commander Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart.
He was born 26 June 1860 at Fort Riley, Kansas, and first named Philip St. George Cooke Stuart after his maternal grandfather, Union Gen. Philip St. George Cooke. When Cooke stayed with the U.S. Army at the outbreak of the war, the elder JEB had the boy renamed James Ewell Brown Stuart II.
The younger J.E.B. Attended VMI with the class of 1881 (uncertain if he graduated or not). He served as a U.S. Army captain in the Spanish-American War and spent about eighteen months in France during World War I as a civilian attached to the American army’s supplies division.
He died 28 November 1930 at Istokpoga, Florida, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

We discussed the desirability of a strong yen that reflects Japan’s strong economic fundamentals, and the importance of staying in close communication on currency markets.
