CBS2025 | The inaugural Commonwealth Business Summit 2025 (CBS2025) began yesterday, June 18, and will conclude tomorrow, June 20. This landmark event is hosted by the Namibian government in Windhoek and is being held alongside the 2025 Commonwealth Trade Ministers Meeting (CTMM), marking the first time these meetings are taking place outside the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters in London.
This year’s summit represents a significant milestone, as it is being held in Africa for the very first time. It signifies a major step toward greater inclusivity and regional engagement within the Commonwealth, highlighting Africa’s growing role in global trade and economic collaboration.

Discussions tackled challenges like global trade uncertainties and strategies to enhance the Commonwealth’s resilience.
Participants also looked at ways to boost intra-Commonwealth trade to US$2 trillion by 2030, with a focus on lowering trade costs, supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises and utilising digital technologies to improve efficiency and transparency.
Day 2 shifts its attention to driving Commonwealth investment by unlocking capital and expanding market opportunities.
Sessions will cover topics including trade and investment prospects within the Commonwealth, the role of digital public infrastructure in agriculture, leveraging regional trade agreements to foster growth and resilience, addressing telecommunications access to enhance connectivity, and bridging financial gaps through innovative investment and financing solutions.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has delegated the Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, to represent her at the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican, Italy, and to deliver her message of condolence to the government of the Holy See.
Pope Francis' funeral is taking place today at St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City, with more than 500,000 mourners, including over 40 heads of state, expected to attend.
Ashipala-Musavyi is accompanied by Martin Andjaba, the ambassador of Namibia to the Holy See. Namibia and the Holy See established diplomatic relations in 2007.
Pope Francis died on April 21, 2025 (Easter Monday), at the age of 88, at his residence in the Domus Sanctae Marthae, Vatican City, following complications from a stroke and heart failure after several weeks of illness.
