#OTD 2/3/2011 #RememberRCN -HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN (3rd) departs Halifax, one day after receiving orders to deploy on OpMOBLIE. In support of a popular uprising in Libya against the regime of Moammar Gadhafi.
Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I've just been handed an urgent news story. I need all of you to stop what you're doing and listen. Cannonball! 🌊🚤💨
#HappyHoildays#fromthecollection – At the Naval Museum of Halifax there is a wonderful collection of holiday cards that were given by sailors and officers to family members throughout the years. Here is a selection of some of our favorites!
Sadly, I can’t indentify the chap in this photo.
Suffice it to say that he’s a RNVR officer, is in the Fleet Air Arm, is a Seafire pilot and is probably shown here on Indomitable.
He therefore looks about as cool as it’s humanly possible to look.
Thank you to the Feener family of Lunenburg County for donating this year’s Tree for Boston.
Each holiday season, Nova Scotia sends a Christmas tree to Boston as a symbol of gratitude for the help their city provided after the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
This year’s beautiful white spruce stands tall as a reminder of our shared history and lasting friendship with the people of Boston.
Check out this photo of Wrens marching in a parade in #Halifax, NS, 1953. From #WWII, women in the #RCN have played a pivotal role in the shaping of the navy of today. The museum is proud to be home to one of the largest artifact and archival collections of women in the #RCNavy.
This prestigious recognition commemorates the ship’s exemplary service during #OpMOBILE, which included enforcing the @UN arms embargo off the coast of Libya and marked the first time a Canadian warship faced hostile fire since the Korean War.

Tucked behind the gates on CFB Halifax is Admiralty House, a 207-year-old house that is now Naval Museum of Halifax. To create better access to the museum, the pedestrian gate on Gottingen Street is open for public visitors, weekdays, 8 am to 3:30 pm.
This will be a 1st for me, expanding my comfort zone. Anticipating a few foibles & perhaps a surprise. Overall it will be fun to explore the museum and some of the “secret” spaces not open to the public.
After the devastating wildfires in 2023, Nova Scotia introduced a $25,000 fine for illegal burning—and it worked. Last year, we had the quietest wildfire season on record.
Starting today, that fine is permanently in effect.
From March 15 to October 15, burning is never allowed between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Daily burn restrictions are updated every day at 2 p.m. – and you must check before you burn.
🟥 Red: No burning
🟨 Yellow: Burning is only allowed between 7:00pm and 8:00am
🟩 Green: Burning is allowed between 2:00pm and 8:00am

The 8th May has been marked as VE Day since before Trump was born. VE stands for Victory in Europe. There is also a VJ Day - Victory over Japan day in August.
As for the First World War, the idea that some Yank who refused to serve in the military, will command people around the world not to call it Rembrance Day is laughable. Sod off.
