39 years too late for the most prolific and evil murderer in Cuba (and later Africa).
Che Guevara was captured on October 8, 1967, and executed the next day, October 9, 1967, in a schoolhouse in the village of La Higuera, Bolivia.
Bolivian Army Rangers (a U.S.-trained unit) wounded and captured him during a firefight in the nearby Quebrada del Yuro (Yuro Ravine). He was held overnight, then shot multiple times (accounts typically say nine wounds) on orders from Bolivian President René Barrientos and the military high command. The soldier who fired the shots was Bolivian Army Sergeant Mario Terán.
CIA operative Félix Rodríguez was present as an adviser; the U.S. preferred transferring Guevara to Panama for interrogation, but Bolivian authorities insisted on execution and later claimed he had died in combat. His body was displayed in Vallegrande, his hands were removed for identification, and he was secretly buried. Remains identified as his were recovered in 1997 and reburied in Cuba.
These details are consistent across, Britannica, contemporaneous New York Times reporting, and later declassified/CIA-adjacent accounts. Minor discrepancies exist in exact shot count, Terán’s rank in some retellings, and precise clock time (commonly cited around 1:10–1:15 p.m.).
@codepink ¿Feministas defendiendo criminales?
