Energy is the fulcrum of India’s economy and the engine of Viksit Bharat under the leadership of PM Sh @narendramodi Ji. With India set to drive about 30% of global incremental energy demand over the next two decades, and with 88% of our crude oil and about 50% of our natural gas still imported, the way forward is simple is to produce more and depend less.

Active exploration has increased to 12 % of the country's sedimentary basin area and, with the award of OALP-X and XI blocks, is expected to reach 19%. 
81% of the active exploration area has been awarded after 2014, underscoring the scale and impact of the reforms undertaken over the past decade Our target is to reach 1 million sqkm of exploration acreage by 2030.

DSF Bid Round IV was launched on 15 April 2025. It offered 55 discoveries, grouped into nine contract areas across five sedimentary basins, covering 6,133.02 sqkm. Three onland areas account for 1,120.91 square kilometres; six offshore areas cover 5,012.11 square kilometres.

Together, these 55 discoveries hold an estimated 260 million tonnes of oil equivalent of in-place volume.
9 new private sector players participated in DSF-IV which shows that reform is meaningful when it improves the terms on which companies can invest, take technical decisions and bring fields into production. 

India's domestic hydrocarbon production will receive a boost through the visionary Samudra Manthan programme, launched by PM Modi Ji, which aims to unlock offshore resources through new seismic surveys, shared drilling costs for around 60 deep- and ultra-deep-water wells, and common offshore infrastructure.

DSF-IV and Samudra Manthan are two halves of one strategy to develop what we have discovered; explore what remains beyond our reach.

Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic incident in which Shri Mahesh Shelke, Manager (Retail Sales), IndianOil, lost his life in Maharashtra while discharging his official duties. He was a part of a team carrying out the takeover of an IndianOil retail outlet in Hingoli district when he was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon. I strongly condemn this heinous and unacceptable act of violence.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family in their hour of unimaginable grief and shock.
@PetroleumMin and @IndianOilcl firmly stand with them and will extend all possible support.

The issue has been taken up with the senior-most officials of the Maharashtra Government and Police to ensure swift and strict action against those responsible, in accordance with law.
The safety, dignity and security of our energy-sector personnel, who work tirelessly to serve the nation, remain paramount.

A bright and promising Sales Officer, Shri Shelke was a dedicated professional whose commitment and sincerity had earned him the respect of his colleagues. His untimely passing is an irreparable loss to his family and a profound loss to the IndianOil family.

At this hour of immense grief, IndianOil stands firmly with his bereaved family and is extending all possible support to them. The Corporation has taken up the matter with the concerned authorities.

Strengthening the energy backbone of South India!

IndianOil is developing the Kochi–Kanyakumari–Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline, spanning 425 km and strengthening the region’s natural gas infrastructure.

With an investment of ₹2,449 crore and a capacity of 6.84 MMSCMD, the project will enhance gas availability for industries, power plants, City Gas Distribution networks and other downstream users.

It will also strengthen connectivity with the existing natural gas pipeline network in southern India, enabling a more integrated and reliable energy ecosystem.

Claim

A message is going viral on social media claiming that petrol pump owners in Madhya Pradesh have announced that UPI payments exceeding ₹2,000 will not be accepted in protest against merchant fees and that a “No-UPI Day” will be observed in Indore on September 23, 2026.

Fact

The viral message is fake and misleading. No such restriction on UPI payments exceeding ₹2,000 has been announced by petrol pump owners in Madhya Pradesh. Some individuals who are not even petroleum dealers themselves have made such baseless claims.

In fact, petroleum dealers’ associations have been in regular touch with Ministry officials, and no such “No-UPI Day” strike has been announced or informed. Petrol pump dealers have been at the forefront of promoting digital payments.
