Things that DON'T make you a bad writer:

-Taking breaks
-Having days where you hate writing
-Not writing every day
-Deciding to drop a WIP
-Taking a few weeks, or even months off to work on your mental health
-Writing multiple terrible drafts until you write one you love

WRITERS! Share if you:

-Cry when you kill a character
-Consider new books a necessity like water, food, and shelter
-Have made up excuses to avoid going out so you can stay home and read
-Spend most of your writing time on Twitter
-Prefer fictional people to outside people

-They will steal your name
-They're constantly listening in on conversations for inspiration
-They will eat all your snacks
-By "open up to me" they mean "my characters need more inner conflict. Tell me yours"

Being a writer isn’t about telling the perfect story, it’s about telling your story. Stop being a perfectionist and just write. Every author you love, someone thinks is terrible, so don’t worry about what other people say. Just write what makes you excited to keep writing

Be the person who supports writers. And no, that doesn't even mean buying their book. Money is tight we get it. But encourage them. Be the person who believes in your writer friends. Out of the hundreds of voices discouraging them, be the one person who believes they will succeed

Advice I wish I had known when I began writing:

- Your first draft will be awful. But it's not your fault, every first draft is bad, that doesn't mean your a bad writer.
- If you want to get better at writing, read everything!
- Ignore the impostor syndrome.
- You will succeed.

RULES to being a writer:

1) Hoard notebooks to write in
2) Do not write in your notebook hoard
3) Buy 183736 books similar to your story
4) Do not read these books. Instead, read something completely unrelated to your story
5) When you say you're "writing", go on Twitter instead

Writers: If you're having trouble with a scene, skip it and keep the story moving, you can always come back to it later

-Don't sacrifice originality because you want to fit a trend
-The best stories set new trends, not copy current ones
-What matters is that YOU love your story, not that it fits the market
-Write what you want. Period
