WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump administration announced Thursday that eight fertilizer manufacturing projects have been selected for proposed investments totaling more than $1.34 billion, including a project involving Iowa.
Vice President JD Vance and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the initiative, which includes approximately $573 million in proposed federal funding to expand American fertilizer production and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
One of the largest selected projects involves Iowa.
TalusAg was selected for approximately $99.8 million in proposed USDA funding toward a $270.2 million project to establish 20 modular ammonia manufacturing units across seven states, including Iowa. The project is expected to produce approximately 130,000 tons of fertilizer annually.
The USDA estimates the eight projects, once operational, could:
Reduce nitrogen fertilizer prices by 4.4%.
Reduce potash fertilizer prices by 5.3%.
Expand domestic fertilizer production and increase competition.
Strengthen America’s agricultural supply chain.
Those price reductions are projections, not immediate savings. The projects must still move through the funding and development process.
For Iowa farmers facing high production costs, the investment could eventually mean additional fertilizer supply and more competition in the marketplace.
