Hi there...it's been a while everyone. This is Jefferson Gymnasium and Auditorium in Webster City,Iowa. For over 80 years or so, this was the home of the Webster City Lynx basketball, wrestling and volleyball teams and Iowa Central Indians when they had a team . A place that packed audiences for the best in sports action...filled to capacity on those cold Iowa winter nights., Jefferson Auditorium was also the home that did not disappoint some 3,200 fans of Dolly Parton on April 30, 1976. Dolly performed on the stage of Jefferson Auditorium for two shows on that spring evening 50 years ago. She appeared as a fund raiser for the Iowa Central Community College Scholarship Fund for students.. The school hosted other country artists from the late 1970 to early 80s....Tom T. Hall...Barbara Mandrell, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins...just to name a few. This place was filled with country music fans during that time. I was in High School at the time when Dolly Parton came to Webster City. The giant Lynx you see is where Dolly performed... this was the stage of Jefferson Auditorium but is now all covered plus the Middle School ladies were preparing for their volleyball practice.
I had to get my memory of Dolly and her visit to Webster City of 50 years ago. She will be missed. Thanks for sharing your memories of Dolly Parton
