It’s interesting how the reframing of systemic detriments in educating as “a teacher feeling overwhelmed” is so common. This myth minimizes and belittles the clear and quantifiably damaging labor conditions that harm student outcomes. Rather than being taken in by the easy story, parents could support their child’s learning by 1) believing that educators are indeed knowledgeable specialists in their profession 2) developing critical thinking skills and observations on the topics of class size, teacher experience, and quantifiable face-time with & feedback from teachers per student. The numbers do not add up in today’s classrooms and this is a huge disservice to our upcoming generations (let alone leading to Sisyphean labor conditions for educators).
You can't pretend Catch-22 was scribbled without any preparation. This is Joseph Heller's original outline, meticulously plotted over a period of many months on the floor of his living room.
@AntigoneJournal I should have assumed you’d already looked 😀 I’ve worked more with Melville marginalia; if I run across anything digitally available, I’ll forward the link.
Last week, Paul Toboni told me he hasn't spent enough time considering what Nats fans have gone through in recent years (you know, with all the losing).
But for anyone invested in his plan working, I'd say that's a good thing.

Just awful numbers for the war in Iran:
1) More Republicans call the war a net-negative than a net-positive.
2) Just 39% of Republicans -- and 16% overall -- say we're winning or have won the war.
New: Some members privately joke that Johnson has to rely on Trump so much that he is actually the speaker.
Trump is in on it too.
“I have two jobs: being president and being speaker,” Trump once joked in front of Johnson and other members, per sources.
At times members who have gone to Johnson seeking to get their legislation on the floor have been sent to the White House to get their approval first.
"In my adult lifetime, I have not seen an executive branch with as much input and influence over the chamber than this one has," Rep. Steve Womack said.
Others are baffled too.

The Freedom Caucus decline started last summer as they repeatedly caved on policy positions.
Now folks like Roy are losing their statewide primary bids.
And HFC types like Boebert and Harris are on notice for 2028.
