This tweet accidentally explains one of the deepest problems with Nigerian education.

We have confused early literacy with early intelligence.

A 5 year old kid reading and writing before everyone isn’t impressive. Childhood development is not a race to finish the ABC. Those early years should be about building curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, communication and independent thinking.

Let them build things. Draw nonsense. Play games. Solve puzzles. Ask annoying questions. Learn to disagree and explain why.

Then reading, writing and maths become tools for a mind that has already started learning how to THINK.

And Twitter is probably the funniest evidence of what happens when we get this backwards 😂

Every day you meet people here who can read and write beautifully. Big grammar sef.

But comprehension? Omo.

You write A. They read B. They argue passionately against C. Then 4,000 people retweet aggressively 😭

Literacy is not the same thing as education. Being able to read is useless if you were never taught how to think.

1. Preaching via megaphones and tracts clearly work for poor people more.

People who are probably used to the street, receiving things on the road etc

I have done outreaches consistently with flyers and I know the reception isn’t as great as it used to be.

Even I do not receive flyers from people anymore so how can I blame others who don’t?

Frankly you can’t come into an average estate with megaphones or tracts.

You can’t get access to people in urban places, except you are a part of that neighborhood or something.

Access has been greatly limited in this generation, no one wants a megaphone 📣 blaring in their peaceful estates.

I once did prayer walks by 5am in the estate I lived before this, a silent prayer walk without words anyone could hear, the estate reported me for patrolling the estate streets unnecessarily.

You can’t get a decent audience from megaphones, except you are under the bridge and stuff.

I have not said peasants and poor people don’t deserve the gospel but you and I know they don’t control the narrative in this generation!

You can’t reach elite population with archaic tools.

Maybe his statement is not true for all places but I know it is true for many cities.

Many of you who are dragging him do not receive tracts from people at all, neither do you receive flyers.

This generation does not resonate with those old methods.

A social media influencer actually stands way better chances at influencing his or followers than a man standing in the sun with a megaphone.

2. Don’t be hypocritical, the average exposed young person doesn’t gravitate towards preachers who preach in the bus.

These are the realities.

If you really do evangelism, you will know people don’t gravitate towards these flyers, tracts, megaphones , bus evangelisms as much as digital media today.

It is okay you don’t like the presentation but you can’t invalidate the facts.

二战后，非洲民族解放运动兴起，卢蒙巴领导的刚果民族运动党（MNC） 崛起，迫使比利时同意刚果独立。1960年5月，刚果首次议会选举，卢蒙巴当选首任总理。6月30日独立庆典上，比利时国王博杜安（Baudouin） 仍以殖民者姿态致辞，卢蒙巴当众痛斥比利时暴政，赢得刚果民众欢呼，却也埋下杀身之祸。
独立次日，刚果爆发军队哗变，10天后莫伊兹·冲伯（Moïse Tshombe） 在加丹加省叛乱，比利时以“保护侨民”为由出兵，美国控制的联合国维和部队拒绝支持卢蒙巴政府。卢蒙巴转向苏联求援，引发美国恐慌——刚果铀矿是冷战核战略关键物资，美国中情局随即策划颠覆。
1960年9月，约瑟夫-德西雷·蒙博托（Joseph-Désiré Mobutu） 发动政变，卢蒙巴被软禁，11月27日逃亡途中被捕。1961年1月17日，卢蒙巴被移交叛军后枪决，年仅35岁。
1999年，比利时警察杰拉德·索特（Gerard Soete） 承认参与肢解卢蒙巴遗体，仅存的金牙被其私藏。2022年6月，比利时总理亚历山大·德克罗（Alexander De Croo） 归还金牙并致歉，承认比利时负有道德责任。6月30日，刚果为卢蒙巴举行国葬，这位民族英雄终于得以安息。
