Prime Minister @masrourbarzani will lead a significant delegation to Baghdad for G2G talks next week.
We will offer the KRG’s unique experience with the 24-hour Runaki programme to the new federal government, including technical assistance and access to our technology to accelerate Prime Minister Al-Zaidi’s ambitions for electricity sector reform.
Prime Minister @masrourbarzani will also follow up on security assurances to allow oil and gas companies in the Kurdistan Region to resume production and exports, potentially doubling Iraq’s export capacity to over 500K bpd.
Companies cannot be expected to resume operations amid the threat of drones in the skies.
A timely visit.
It looks increasingly likely that Zaidi will regret taking the PM post. It won't be surprising he resigns if armed groups begin attacking his companies and business interests. Billions of $$$ on the line.
Highlights from this week’s Iraq report 🧵
1/ Bottom line: Iraq’s new government is beginning to take shape under PM Zaidi amid deepening economic strain, rising tensions due to attacks on Gulf states, and intensifying political competition in Baghdad. https://t.co/MhDz3BLBFg

Yeah. Tough to disagree with your take that comes from long years of watching Iraq. I am already noticing Zaidy is not a big fan of an open governance style.
@IraqShamel Not holding my breath with no party behind him he will have to find ways to build power and influence with a bunch of parties that are already very angry with each other
Azm and Muthana al-Samaraie are not happy with the Halbousis and the way their candidate for ministry of planning was not approved. The Iraqi Sunni National Political Council is showing cracks. No sign Halbousis are losing control, though.

@UticaRisk Good question. The commentary focuses on the lack of his grammar skills. I don't think he can fix that. His local accent is clearly there but he is also not the most dynamic public speaker imo.
Zaidi getting widely slammed for weak oratory skills by Arabic speakers. This handicap may be with him for a while. Let's see if he can get over it with some governance solutions or some amazing management skills.

Pleased to participate at @AtlanticCouncil Iraq Dialogue, discussing not the Iraq in headlines, but that of students, entrepreneurs, civil society, and resilience. Proud to share how young Iraqis and institutions like AUIS are building a more open, capable, and connected future.
Always great to see attention to Iraq in Washington. The Iraq Dialouge organized by @VictoriaT_ was a tremendous platform to see where the country can go and where it cannot go.
It has been a truly busy and meaningful week for #Iraq in #Washington, D.C.. I was very pleased to organize a number of meetings and roundtables for friends and colleagues visiting from Baghdad, alongside the “Iraq Dialogue 2026” hosted by the @AtlanticCouncil.
The week included engaging discussions at several leading think tanks and institutions, including the @NewlinesInst, @MiddleEastInst and the @GulfStatesInst. There were many conversations, diverse perspectives, and thoughtful debates — yet throughout every meeting and discussion, #Iraq always came first.
My sincere thanks to the wonderful team at the Atlantic Council, led by @VictoriaT_ and special thanks to my dear friend @DaniaArayssi I am also deeply grateful to Dr. Abbas Kadhim for their warm hospitality and meaningful engagement.
