ISOLATED NEUTROPENIA

Saw a young white man in clinic today with isolated neutropenia. Went to brush up…and was struck by how little we actually know about this condition compared to anemia or thrombocytopenia. A diagnostic blind spot in hematology.

Non-anemic iron deficiency: a fragile equilibrium

I keep seeing patients with ferritin <10 for years without development of anemia.

How?

They’re in a narrow equilibrium (pseudoequiibrium?): every scrap of dietary iron goes to the marrow → Hb preserved, but no reserves.
