An 8-year-old girl was being dragged toward the woods by a stranger when her 13-year-old brother spotted them from his bedroom window.

Owen Burns had heard his little sister’s desperate screams coming from outside. When he realized what was happening, he knew he only had seconds to save her.

He looked around his room and grabbed the only weapon he had, a slingshot. He loaded it with a marble, aimed at the stranger from nearly 200 feet away, and struck him in the head. Then he fired a rock, hitting him again in the chest.

His little sister broke free and ran as fast as she could back home.

And here’s the incredible part. When police later arrested a suspect, the injuries from Owen’s slingshot were so severe that they helped them identify him as the attacker.

If Owen had missed those shots, his little sister could have disappeared into the woods with a complete stranger, possibly never to be seen again.

Sometimes the bravest heroes are the ones you’d least expect. Owen was only 13, but when his little sister needed him most, he didn’t hesitate. And that deserves some recognition.
