The Irish women’s team finished above their seeding in 57th place after a final round win over Nicaragua 3.5-0.5. Lara made it 5 wins from 5 over the second half of the event and @toshqueen1 claimed a WCM title with her score of 4.5/9. Great job team!
Tom and Tarun were our standout performers on the open side finishing with 6.5/9 and 6/10 respectively and 2496 and 2420 rating performances! Well done guys
Our open team finished with a convincing 4-0 over Lebanon meaning we had 5 match wins, 2 draws and 4 losses over the two weeks which was good enough for a 66th place finish. Our two draws against the 20th and 37th seeds were the standout results! Well done team! #ChessOlympiad
Congrats to India on winning the open section of the #chessolympiad; led by 2 insane 3000 rating performances from Arjun and Gukesh. It could be a long time until they are dislodged from the world’s top 5 players..
It’s a WFM title for Lara Putar after 4 fantastic wins in a row against tough opposition takes here from 2/4 to 6/8! 66% or better from 9 games is required for the WFM title in Olympiads which means even a loss tomorrow will secure the title. Huge congrats, Lara! #ChessOlympiad
What a round from the Irish women’s team who hold the 29th seeded Cuban team to a 2-2 draw thanks to wins from Trisha and Lara. Lara showed nerves of steel and was again last to finish as she defeated a former world top 15 girl to seal the draw! #ChessOlympiad
A stunning photo of our team courtesy of @StevBonhage - our women’s team are coming into form just at the right time with 3 match wins over the last 4 rounds including a 4-0 win over Zimbabwe today! Diana has won her last 3 games (4.5/6) & Alice her last 2 (3.5/6). Cuba tomorrow!

Incredible result for our open team (seeded 64th) as they draw with the 20th seeded team! Tom was player of the day as he produced a near perfect game to defeat 2630 rated GM Nabaty while Tarun produced a stunning comeback to defeat 2543 rated GM Gorshtein. Greece up tomorrow 🇬🇷
The Irish Open team (not photogenic so far) will play the 20th seeds today.. Alex is rested. They were given a stern test by Fiji in round 1 with an eventual winning score of 3.5-0.5 - Alex drawing and Tom rested. Conor Murphy has moved to 8.5/10 for his Olympiad career.
The Irish women’s team got off to a perfect start at the #Olympiad - defeating Cameroon 4-0, with Trisha having the day off. They will play Vietnam who have a very strong team from 3pm today, with Tosia rested. Best of luck Trisha, Alice, Diana and Lara!
@GMAlexColovic@davidllada The @IrishChessUnion basically picks the 5 highest rated players. There's some activity requirements and the selection committee does have wriggle room but only if 2 players are within 25 Elo. Rules are only changed at AGMs, active after the next olympiad.
IM Mark Quinn and I will be starting our commentary at 15:30 for the penultimate round. We'll be joined later by 9-time Irish Champion, Stephen Brady.
