✊🏻🚩🇮🇪 The Workers’ Party wishes a happy International Women's Day to all working women.
We also remember with pride the many women who have played their part in the struggle for socialism and republicanism both in Ireland and around the world.
🎧 To mark the occasion, have a listen to the @IrishPeoplePod episodes on Anne Devlin, Winnie Carney and other great socialist and republican women on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or any of your favourite streaming platforms.
🎧 In our latest episode, we're publishing a talk entitled The National Question in the Era of Imperial Decline by Alexander McKay (@MarxEngelsLnin). The talk was given at a recent @workersparty event in Trinity College Dublin. Available now on all good streaming platforms.
The 25th January 2024 will mark the 100th birthday of Tomás MacGiolla, Socialist, Republican and Revolutionary.
Tomás MacGiolla was a major figure in 20th century Irish political life. He was a lifelong revolutionary, political agitator, TD and served as Lord Mayor of Dublin from 1993-1994. As President of Sinn Féin/The Workers’ Party from 1962 -1988, he played a key role in the foundation of the civil rights movement in the north of Ireland and in shaping the response of the Republican Movement to the outbreak of the Troubles, leading ultimately to the development of the Workers’ Party of Ireland.
On the occasion of his 100th birthday we will also pay tribute to his wife, companion and comrade Máire Bhean Mhic Giolla who was herself an integral part of the republican movement and our Party throughout her life.
We sincerely hope that you can join us on Saturday, 27th January from 6pm until late at the Academy Plaza Hotel, Findlater Place (off O’Connell Street) Dublin 1 for an evening of conversation, discussion and music with a social event afterwards as we remember and pay tribute to one of the most outstanding leaders of the Republican socialist tradition. Bígí linn! 🇮🇪 🚩
