Worth noting that the human shield strategy would be pointless if they believed Israel was willing to just target indiscriminately.

The only reason to do this is because Hamas/PIJ believe that having a child act as a human shield makes an Israeli action less likely.

Ireland has been and can be a very unforgiving place though. The moral precepts of "Catholic Ireland" have been replaced with those of "modern Ireland". Those who fall foul of the new morality are judged, shunned, cancelled etc. I'm not sure if things are as bad in that respect in the UK.

100%. And the narcissism coming out of many in Ireland who seem to believe that we are somehow uniquely positioned to understand a conflict 4000kms away is mental. All while showing complete ignorance surrounding it.

In fact, I'd argue that in many ways Ireland is uniquely positioned to be completely ignorant to middle eastern conflicts, especially the Israel Palestine conflict. We are an island at the edge of Europe, with historically only one hostile state. We have absolutely no experience being in the middle of multi front wars between multiple actors all with their own interests.

On top of that, Ireland is uniquely ignorant to Islamic and Jewish cultures. We have had, relative to much of Europe, very little Islamic extremism and have barely had any Jews to persecute. Most Irish people have never met a Jew, and we have one of the smallest Muslim populations in Europe. With most of Europe having 3 times our relative population.

We are in the perfect position for narcissistic finger waving all while being a completely defenceless island, believing the world is made of pillows once we're 'sound' enough and our neighbours get increasingly annoyed at our freeloading and student politics.
