Christine Lagarde, presidente della BCE, il 1° ottobre ha avvertito che l’intelligenza artificiale può creare rischi per la stabilità finanziaria.

E non stava parlando di Terminator.

Parlava di cose molto più concrete: agenti AI capaci di agire con crescente autonomia sui mercati, algoritmi che potrebbero reagire tutti nello stesso modo amplificando gli shock, sistemi capaci di individuare vulnerabilità informatiche sempre più rapidamente e cyberattacchi automatizzati. Quasi 9 grandi banche dell’eurozona su 10 utilizzano già IA generativa.

Insomma:

«Attenzione, il sistema finanziario è sempre più digitale e l’intelligenza artificiale potrebbe accelerare enormemente gli attacchi informatici».

Perfetto.

E quale grande progetto continua contemporaneamente a portare avanti la BCE?

L’EURO DIGITALE.

Naturalmente. 😂

Perché quando scopri che la casa potrebbe prendere fuoco, la prima cosa da fare è ordinare tende nuove.

La BCE assicura che l’euro digitale sarà progettato proprio per essere resiliente: infrastruttura distribuita, sistemi di cybersecurity, pagamenti offline e possibilità di funzionare anche in caso di problemi di rete. Il progetto prosegue e il pilot è previsto per la seconda metà del 2027.

Ma allora permetteteci almeno una domanda molto semplice.

Se la stessa BCE ci spiega che l’evoluzione dell’AI può comprimere da settimane a ore il tempo necessario per trasformare una vulnerabilità informatica in un attacco automatizzato su larga scala, forse la cybersecurity del denaro di centinaia di milioni di europei non dovrebbe essere trattata come una nota a piè di pagina.

E qui arriva la scena che Don Chisciotte non riesce a togliersi dalla testa.

Naturalmente questa è satira, non la previsione che l’euro digitale permetterà a qualcuno di “svuotare i conti”. Anzi, la BCE sostiene esplicitamente che il sistema verrà costruito con protezioni specifiche contro guasti e cyberattacchi.

Ma il punto politico resta interessante:

più il denaro diventa dipendente dall’infrastruttura digitale, più la resilienza di quell’infrastruttura diventa parte integrante della sicurezza del denaro stesso.

E adesso è la BCE a ricordarcelo.

Quindi tranquilli.

L’intelligenza artificiale può minacciare la stabilità finanziaria.

Gli attacchi possono diventare sempre più veloci.

I sistemi possono diventare sempre più autonomi.

Ma continuiamo a digitalizzare.
