The Canadian Artillery Memorial in Thelus, France was the second memorial created on the Vimy Ridge battlefield. Unveiled by Lt-Gen Sir Arthur Currie in January 1918.

For twenty days before the infantry assaulted, the gunners had been fighting the Battle of Vimy Ridge, neutralizing enemy guns, cutting wire and destroying defences. The hard working team of Canadian, British, and South African gunners cleared the way for a hard fought victory.

After twenty days of preparatory bombardment focussed on destroying German artillery, clearing wire and demoralizing defenders #OTD in 1917 the #Canadian Corps Artillery began a massive creeping barrage behind which the brave infantry advanced up #VimyRidge.

#OTD in 1917, the Canadian attack on #Vimy Ridge was delayed by a day from 8 to 9 April.

This necessitated a change in the artillery plan, read in @IronIndignation

6 April = W Day.
