Today, June 25, marks the 76th anniversary of the start of the Korean War. On this day in 1950, the North Korean People's Army invaded South Korea in a coordinated attack at several strategic points along the 38th parallel. Those who served in Korea experienced sweltering, monsoon-drenched summers and arctic winters with Siberian winds dropping temperatures as low as -35° F. Although combat officially ended with an armistice on July 27, 1953, there was no peace treaty, leaving the peninsula divided into North and South Korea by a 2.5 mile-wide Demilitarized Zone. It remains to this day, a “frozen conflict.” We remember and honor those who served during the Korean War and thank you for your service!
The Forgotten War
Today, we honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the #Marines who fought in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.
Often referred to as the "Forgotten War," its impact on global history and the defense of South Korea is immeasurable.
