This morning, our comrades who are battling with trumped up charges of ‘unlawful drilling’ appeared before the Kanyanya Magistrates Court in Kawempe for a verdict on their bail.

However, the presiding magistrate declined to grant them bail maintaining that their release would ‘compromise’ the investigations!

These comrades have been on remand for a lengthy period and therefore qualify for mandatory bail on just this ground. It’s unfortunate that the would be temple of justice has been reduced to an enabler of persecution.

Sending my thoughts to the families who lost their loved ones in the road accident that occurred yesterday at Bobi Trading Centre, Omoro District, along the highway to Gulu. I extend condolences to them and wish a quick recovery to those who survived with injuries.

We owe it to ourselves to make our roads safer through better infrastructure and proper maintenance, otherwise these recurring tragedies have become too normal! May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.
