@djotrex That was a freelance episode (Fury joined Buffy as number 3 in the chain of command S4 onwards) but Fury original pitch had Giles as watcher again. Joss changed it and then he created Wesley.

@djotrex Joss rewrote it (well... like 938398 episodes during the first 3 seasons) and thats why it is even more meta than the idea Vebber pitched to him. Like the whole cheesy Bangel scene lol

@retrocvnty According to Noxon they did Spuffy cause Joss thought Buffy and Spike getting together should be "epic" lol Then he came up with the scene as a metaphor (like everything in the series cause, yeah, it never was a vamp show but a real life show dressed as supernatural stuff).

@legolaurapalmer S7 began without showrunners (Joss running Firefly, Marti maternity leave) and number 3 (Fury went to Angel) so they worked semi alone (Joss still led storybreaking and did final pass) until mid season. Three shows were a bit too much for tiny Buffy offices...

@ChrisVetter73 @juliesacunt Even more: they did the whole thing (except some real world scenes) at one crappy warehouse in Santa Monica. Everything: offices, writers rooms, post production, sets etc Joss office had a window over Sunnydale St, lol. Everything for 1.8M per episode (and 2.3M with UPN).

@juliesacunt That was the whole point of Joss' formula: a real life series dressed as horror/fantasy/vamp show. Thats why he began every storybreaking processs explaining or asking (when he asked for ideas) where was Buffy in her emotional journey. Then they came up with monsters and so.

@fufftillow @legolaurapalmer Every ep began with him explaining where was Buffy in her emotional journey and then asked them for episode ideas (or, like maaaany times, pitched it by himself). And then they talked for days/weeks about it with him as team leader. Maybe he said more than one thing right 😄

@legolaurapalmer @fufftillow It didn't work that way. Writers mostly did dialogue and details after the storybreaking process in which Joss gave them the entire episode scene by scene (Marti did too S6-7). And before his final pass when he added tons (tons) of lines like this.

@PLMorien @retrocvnty Nope. Joss lived in England during his high school years (Winchester college) so he knew the slang. As Espenson confirmed many of the Spike lines came from Joss during the storybreaking process (or during his final pass in every script).

@spuffyologies Thats because Joss number 2, Greenwalt, left to run Angel and Noxon became new number 2 and also consigliere in all romance and sex stuff. She was also his best friend and the most powerful woman at Buffy set. Joss gave her a 5 year promotion in just 2 years.
