@CityNewsTO This is bad news regardless, but if you break it down it's roughly only $83.00 extra a month. Now if that breaks the bank for most families then the country has a much larger underlying issue that needs to be resolved.
@CityNewsTO I hate to say it....but Doug Ford called it...the speed cameras were being used as cash revenues and not safety tools for the community. The next course of action should be a full audit of the city's finances. Clearly Toronto is sinking in debt!!
This is very bad all around. The only proponent I agree with is the right to evict a non paying tenant. It's not fair that there are tenants who get to stay rent free for 6 months+. Regarding ending long term or adjusting old leases, that's very bad. I feel the government is doing this because many landlords are over leveraged and they know they will default. This will be an easier way for them to increase cash flow for a bad investment (presently). This portion of it is extremely bad. Just as they ended rent control for post 2018 new buildings. This legislation alone gave the power for landlords to increase rent by 50%.
@CP24 This is not an Ontario problem but a Canada problem. Through different mechanisms (immigration, Private lending, etc.) they allowed Canadian real estate to become extremely speculative. Now that a correction is beginning to happen, reality is starting to sink in.

This will be bad for both small landlords and long term tenants. For the tenants this will leave them at the Mercy of the landlord for him to adjust prices accordingly with their inflation (mortgage payments or cost of maintenance)which would push out a lot of middle class and lower class tenants. The small time landlords will be at the Mercy of higher taxation. (Personal opinion this will be the precursor for paying capital gains on the primary property when sold. Also this is to help these landlords who are over leveraged and are struggling to keep up with payments.) I do agree with the speed up of eviction for abusing tenants no landlord should be held at the mercy of a tenant.
@CityNewsTO Why are the senators spouses getting tax-paid language classes. I understand it's not the most expensive perk these politicians get, but their spouses are not politicians!!
This is unacceptable...she shouldn't be allowed to use the city's residents as her bank. In just 3 years property taxes have gone up 24%. While she cries the city has a massive deficit she is able to increase councillors salaries by $33, 000.00. she should be investigated (audited) on how the city's finances are being managed.
@wideawake_media This is a infringement of human liberty and freedom. Once again history repeats itself by taxing the public (citizens) into poverty...the only difference is it went from a monarchy to a democracy!!
Canada's new PM Mark Carney wishes to limit people's ability to fly by hiking up taxes on air travel.
"We should be taking into account the impact of our flying on the planet."
"You push up the tax on flying, you push up the cost on transport, and that's—in part—what putting a price on carbon is."
@CP24 At what point will the immigration and refugee reform come to an end. Clearly everyone from citizens to even the government (the geniuses who created the policy) are losing. It needs to stop!!! It's hurting every Canadian in every social class!!
